as if it isn't hard enough to look after kittens, without adding this to the list of worries!

I hope you get an answer soon. Like someone else said, keep persisting with them if you don't. I would definitely insist she talks to the manufacturers to clarify the exact symptoms you may see. Chances are she didn't make a mistake, but if she did, by calling her and ensuring she clarifies things with the manufacturers you have set up a chain of evidence if you need to make a complaint.

I gave my new Bengal queen an extra Felv this year with her Fevaxyn Pentofel combo so she had a first 28-1-08 then a second 18-2-08 and then another Fevaxyn Felv on it's own 15-9-08 just to be sure as some of the flu vaccs are being a bit funny this year i've read.
Can I just ask, you said that you read that some flu vaccines are being a bit funny, in what way ? To have to give a 3rd dose, does that mean the vaccine is'nt working properly ? Just wondering as i've not heard of anything around here and of vets giving a 3rd dose.

apparently in some of the exotic and hybrid breeds they are having some instances that the maternally derived antibodies are hindering the vaccine. For instance with the Savannahs, some are still becoming ill with the leuk and flu even after vaccination. Some are being given a 3 vaccine to see if this keeps it from happening but I think it's still in the works. I will let you know when i have more info. or you could keep it in mind and search the internet. I have also been reading about having a third course of the Parvo for dogs as well. Maybe there is a resistance going on with some of these hybrid breeds? Maybe a third course would be necessary. I would discuss it with your vets if you can. Some vaccine companies are suggesting that a 3rd vaccine is given to pups at 16wks and to bring forward older pups first booster to 10 - 12 months of age rather than 14.
I gather it's all to do with MDAs(maternally derived antibody) reducing the effects of the early vaccs and then they themselves naturally diminish (don't quote me on that!!!) would be maybe a suggestion to speak to your vets and see if they can discuss this with their vaccine company. or even contact Nobivac yourself in email or letter.
I've only heard about i happening with dogs and with hybrid breeds. not the natural breeds like you have.

Re: mistake with vaccination - advice/experience of this?

Oh, interesting, thanks for that. I will have a chat with my vet now, lol.
Our vets use the Quantum cat vaccines. I've found it very good. I know some breeders have been asking their vets to use that on their kittens/cats instead of what they normally use. We're lucky that our vets use it anyway

yeah there's a bit of a debate at the moment some are suggesting the 3rd vaccine where as others are suggesting to wait until after 9wks to do the first to give the kittens system time to build off the maternal antibodies. i donno i was very confused by it all and am still waiting for my next read about it! will keep you posted if you'd like.

Re: mistake with vaccination - advice/experience of this?

there is a recommendationm now to give a 3rd vaccine to kittens at or after 16 weeks of age, because of persistent maternal antibodies - this is more important in breeding / rescue situations. However I haven't started doing this yet, because my kittens don't always stay here till 16 weeks of age. I do mention it in my information sheet for new owners.

more info on The European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases

Re: mistake with vaccination - advice/experience of this?

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your advice yesterday...I just wanted to give you an update and let you know what happened with the kittens...

I called the vets and after discussing my concerns she assured me she had definitely vaccinated both of them - it was just a split second thing when she put one down and said it, but then she realised what she had done and knew which one hadn't had her innoculation.

Both kitties seem to be absolutely fine and still as mental and lively as usual - I will keep a close eye on them both though just to be sure. I have used this vets for a long time for all my cats, so I do really hope everything is fine.
