Re: My baby's got a hurt murmur!! :,( long post but pls read cos I'm terrified for hi

The vet rang back. She mentioned TD diet for dental?
In tesco and asda I can only find Felix, whisk as, and some other cheaper or really expensive brands. None of the ones the vet or the lists mention that's good for them
She said to try the treats I found. She also said Muffin is reaching early middle age and cats do look thinner at the back as they get older. Rolo is too fat to notice it on her.
I think I gt the age wrong. I'll hafta double check when they go up next to see when they first went up for their first every jabs but I think they're more like 6 or 7. Its nearly a year since I got married already and I know we had them years before that. So now I'm more worried about how long I got left with them even if neither of them have anything wrong with them. I know you cant think like that but its so upsetting. :,( They're my babies.
I know you said grading doesn't really matter but the vet said Muffins at a stage 2 or 3 with his murmur.

The t/d diet she mentioned is the hills prescription diet and can be gotten in the vets or online, here sells it as well as a few of the brands mentioned in the thread I posted Pet Supplies, Pet Food, Dog Food, Cat Food and Pet Accessories at Zooplus

Don't worry about age, most cats live well into their teens and early twenties these days!

Actually looking back I think they are five now or this year. So that's not old?
I look at the link you just posted. Its so expensive! £45 for just 5kg i havnt got the money for that ongoing. It ssys to mix it increasing the amount little by little to wean them off old food but it says up top not to mix with other food. Rolo wont eat dry food sometimes and Muffin turns his nose up on occasion too. Unless it's s brand they havnt had in ages. They both prefer wet food, even before Rolo had any sign of tooth or gum problems. I'll look into the toothpaste stuff ATM I think.
Whatever new food they may get would have to be in tins and available in the supermarket nearby as I'm not comfortable buying their food online...especially if I buy tins and they arrive dented or pounches and bags arrive torn or ripped.

I buy food online a good bit from zooplus and while there packaging sometimes isin't great not once have I received a torn bag of food, yes a few trays of dog food have arrived dented but they were still intact and edible. Anyways Im sure there would be no problem with returning them if they were too damaged.

Im not sure what range of food is available in your local supermarket but if you can get to a petshop and look for royal canin maine coon dry food, it has massive biscuits and really encourages the cat to chew and break up the biscuit before swallowing. On another forum Im on a good few people add in a few of these biscuits into their regular food to help the teeth, regular sized biscuits do not help as most cats (inc. mine) just swallow them whole or crack them with their molars.

Or alternatively try the toothpastes and brushes. A toothbrush really is the best option if they will tolerate it but I know most cats do not appreciate it!

I just ordered a cat toothpaste kit off amazon. It's by Fish I think. Unless thats the flavour lol..in which case i dont know what make it is. Says on the description that its safe for them to swallow anyway. It comes with a toothbrush and a finger toothbrush too. Everyones given it really good reviews. Was gonna check with my vet before buying it but on one review someone says their vet stocks it so that put me at ease. It's also got detailed instructions on how to keep your cat calm etc and ppl are saying their cats like the taste. Should I check anyway with my vet first if I can find out the make? Ive ordered it and dont know if I can cancel it now before tomorrow and it's bank holiday today :s

I wouldn't worry your vet about it, I'm sure it's perfectly fine! Is it blue actually as I think I may have the same one.

Agree, it will be perfectly safe to use. No need to ask the vet

When I checked Muffin and Rolos breathing the other day they were both 10-15 breaths per 15seconds which I think is way too fast and that's when they were relaxed. The vet didn't seem bothered when I told her, mainly cos if they're both breathing at the same rate when checked it's a good sign. But that multiplied by 4 is 60 so obviously way too high.

Anyway o checked it with a watch go be more accurate today and Muffins breaths were 7 per 15seconds when he was relaxed. Think he was purring too so dunno if that makes a difference? I checked this three times and it was always 7. So the multiplied by 4 gives 28 which might be a little low? But the vet said if it was going higher or in the 40s it's cause for concern and to bring him right in. Think she said anything from 20-30 is normal? I forgot to check Rolos. In counting one breath and a breathing in and a breathing out as one.

That sounds about right for a cat, so don't worry
