help,first time kitten owner

Hello,
I have a 10 week old kitten. He is active ,playful and in every other way normal. He has had soft stools since we had him, this got better when he was eating plain chicken(he wont eat rice). Now he is back on kitten food, just a little mixed with kitten dry food he is loose again. There is a small trace of blood around the anus.
All help gratefully received

Re: help,first time kitten owner

Hi Claire....how many days did you keep him on the plain chicken? I think my vet advises up to a week.....I am presuming he has had a vet check and been regularly wormed etc? If not that is the first step to take.
Personally I would remove the dry food as the grains are the most common culprit. You must make sure the kitten stays well hydrated through the day....you could make some plain chicken broth which should tempt him more than plain water and will keep his electrolyte balance better.
( easiest way is to chop chicken meat and lightly boil in a good amount of water, cool and feed both broth and chicken, or get a couple of chicken carcasses from butcher, boil well for an hour or so and you will get a lovely rich broth which you can strain and cool )
But....vet first!
Please let us know how you get on.

Just a quick update, we changed his food over and since then has been fine.Somebody said that his old food might have been too much for him.
