Re: So scared for my beautiful boy
I'm so glad you made the decision to take him toa different vet, but at the same time I'm sad for the probable diagnosis. I sincerely hope that there is something that can at least be done to gve him a longer and happy life for the time he has left.
Big hug to you! xxx

Re: So scared for my beautiful boy
Argh thats what i hate, "just a cat", to us they are part of our family,
So sorry to hear what has happened with vet, we put our trust in them and the trust of our loved ones, in the belief that they know what they are doing. Can he not be reported? X |

Re: So scared for my beautiful boy
Hi Alfride,
Glad to hear you managed to find a more competent vet and Cartman wasn't unduly stressed out by the experience! The ultrasound findings are very interesting indeed considering the blood tests came back 'normal' with the first vet! Has the new vet taken any? I would certainly have expected the liver readings to be abnormal. I'm also wondering about a condition called cholangiohepatitis which is an inflammation/infection of the liver? A biopsy- would be needed to confirm cancer at any rate but inflammatory conditions should show up on a blood test. Do you know what exactly was sent off to pathology? Hopefully it isn't cancer after all. Regarding the other vet - do you have a regulatory body in Denmark like we have here in UK, you could report him to? The only reason vets like this are still practising is because very often the authorities are not informed about instances of malpractice/or clients just take everything at face value. It's not your fault, these are the professionals which we put our trust in and thankfully in your case, he didn't do any great damage! How is Carman otherwise? It's a good sign if he's still 'well'! Fingers crossed the pathology results come back negative! |

Re: So scared for my beautiful boy
Thank you for the update Alfride but sorry to hear that Cartman is still in poor health. Have got everything crossed for you that you will get good news when the results come back.
Please DON'T beat yourself up about taking him to a b*****d vet who has no clue what he is doing - that is NOT your fault. We automatically put our trust and faith in these people and what they diagnose. It is the same with doctors - we are programmed to believe that they know best. I think you should be applauded for realising so quickly that the bloke was a bottom-wipe and for getting to Cartman to someone better. How much worse would you feel had you not made this quick realisation and had carried on allowing him to treat your baby????? Going over the 'What If's ' will not help to make you feel better. And a cat is NEVER just a cat!!!!! EVER!!!!! Good luck hun, we're all thinking of you. xx

Re: So scared for my beautiful boy
Thank you all for your responses
![]() Cartman is actually doing better by the day. He had a couple of days where he did not eat much but now he is back to eating almost normal (he has always been a good eater). The new vet thinks he has a little nausea and I think she is right. It has been so hard to judge his general health because of how traumatized he was. He was shaking and breathing fast for a while and we though it was his heart but no it was probably stress. Now he seems more like himself and he enjoys all the attention he is getting. He even gave me a lick today so I think he has forgiven me. The purring is also back big time! He also runs around the neighbourhood like a maniac as he always has. The fluid had started to come back – but I think that was to be expected when he was not given any diuretic but adrenocortical hormone! I don't know exactly what the new vet tested for, but she took a biopsy and said she tested for cancer and all sorts of bacteria and infections. I hope that is good enough? She did not draw any blood. We will most likely receive the test result on Monday or at the latest Tuesday. The vet seemed pretty sure that it is cancer so I am not going to get my hopes up to much. I am just grateful that my boy has started to cheer up and that I might have some time left with him. Regarding the psychopath – I have looked into reporting him and yes there are a couple of channels I can go though. I am pretty sure I cannot stop him from practising since that appears impossible in this country – some of the stories I have read about vets still practising are disgusting – It seems people have just started to warn each other by making websites. But I might get my money back and some sort of compensation. I just want to stop him! Right now I am just focusing on my boy – trying to trick him into eating his diuretic and going for a lot of walks. I think he has lost some of his territory because he will not go that far anymore and I don't think it is because he is tired. My poor boy! Fingers crossed he does not have cancer! I just wanted to show you a picture of him from when he was younger. ![]() |
