Unhappy My cat's eye; What is this?

Okay firstly I'll say it looks worse in the pictures then it is. What's happening is his eyes seeping a little bit in the corner you can see in the picture. When you see the liquid itself seeping it looks clear but it dries and then look like dry blood. He shows no sign of discomfort or distress and he opens the eye fine but obviously the constant 'tears' worry me.

In November last year he was involved in an head on collision with something, not 100% sure what but presumably a car, which lead to his lower jaw breaking and he had it wired and it was all fixed by February but his eye had been like this since. Like I said it causes him no discomfort and he can see fine but I would just like to know what it is.

Poor kitty sounds like he's been in the wars!! I'm assuming since it's been like this February, a vet has seen it, what's their opinion?

I don't think it's that simple though because it's been like this for a few months now. There's no cut there, it's just seeping from the eye.

It's been like this while he was at the vets getting his jaw fixed but the vet didn't say anything about this. I haven't taken him to the vets specifically about his eye though.

Re: My cat's eye; What is this?

When tears come into contact with oxygen in the air they then turn red hence the staining. Nevertheless his eye souldn't be watering. Blocked tear duct springs to mind. These can be 'unblocked'!

I'd get vet to have a look!

This actually makes me feel so much better... I was worried it was blood or partially blood but that fact it's just tears makes me less worried.

Yes, but given his history I'd get it checked nonetheless!

Re: My cat's eye; What is this?

Ianthi, what about a possible corneal ulcer?

Merson has been prone to these over the years - usually when his immune system needs a boost - and his 'tears' can be a bit brown'ish looking. I know some ulcers are really obvious & sore looking but you only know Merson has got one on the go when he 'slightly' favours the eye.

I'm just chucking another suggestion into the ring.....

I still stand by the line "If in doubt, see the Vet!!"

As some around here already know........

Re: My cat's eye; What is this?

I agree,Never ignore anything involving eyes, they are easily injured often permanently.Im not saying that this is such a case but I,personally would not risk it,best to have it checked.
