Do these 3 foods count as "high protein" that might affect urea in blood test?
... Bozita (pate only), Animonda Carney and Grau?
I ask because Rosso's latest blood test results returned yesterday. Everything was normal, including creatinine (don't have a figure, but vet said "well within normal levels), except urea was slightly elevated. (Normal 13 Rosso 14.1).
Tanya's CRF site says that both have to be raised for a cat to be in renal failure. If urea alone is raised it's either a) dehydrated (no) b) gastro intestinal bleeding (definitely no) c) the cat is on a high protein food. I'm hoping the latter will explain all.
Another site says urea alone may be an indicated of early or mild CRF, but I feel more inclined to go with Tanya's site than another less specialist site.
This is a blood test 6 months after a lily eating incident in early December, over which there was almost a divorce (if not a murder) when my husband left the door open to the front porch where the cats aren't allowed due to the risk of them getting out through the front door. However I've learned my lesson and lillies won't even get down the drive in future.
It's been the first test where creatinine has been within normal (it went up after the incident, he was on fluids, went down, then slightly up again and the last time it was tested 3 months ago was still slightly above the normal range. Having said that they did a urine test, which showed an e-coli infection, so maybe that had an effect on the creatinine last time? The vet has basically said he's fine, to retest in 6 months for peace of mind/bring him in if we notice any symptoms (he's been very healthy and lively). It's such a relief after all this time.
