Re: 8 week kitten

Hi

First off Congratulations on your new little kitty

What was he eating before you got him? Does he seem ok in himself? Lively and bright? If he's not bright and energetic I'd probably get him checked by a vet.

I would have thought he should eat fine at his age, even with the upheaval of moving.

When we got our last kitten we were told she wouldn't eat kitten food, only chicken and ham (!!) but within a day she was eating kitten food happily. It just took a little bit of persuasion.

It's good he is at least having some kitten formula. Is it like kitten milk or powdered replacement? How long between feeds?

I'd probably suggest trying him with a little chicken or kitten food again. I'd let him go longer before you next try to feed him, give him chance to get hungry.

Hope he starts eating soon, if not you may need a trip to the vets.

Good luck

Re: 8 week kitten

At 8 weeks he was really too young to be taken away from his mother, it should ideally be 12 weeks. I would have thought at his age he should be eating by himself and if he wasn't then there is no way he should have been rehomed yet.
I won't claim to be a kitten expert but hopefully some breeders will come along in a min.
Like the other poster i am just curious if he was eating ok before hand? if he was then it may be the unsettling move. But if not then i would get to a vet asap.

From what you're saying, your kitten sounds sick and needs to see a vet today. Kittens can go downhill very fast. At 8 wks, a kitten should be eating solid food and should not be being fed with a syringe. Also, unless you're an experienced 'syringe feeder', I understand this can be dangerous due to the risk of choking.

Vets are always available. During weekends and bank holidays they still run a service. Please call your vet surgery now.

^^^^^ Fully agree with all above. I dont think it is an over reaction to say that this should not wait. Please have your kitten seen by a vet today.

Please make sure he keeps this up as kittens can and do go down hill so very quickly.I would get him booked in for a check up as soon as you can just to make sure there are no problems and to arrange his first vaccination.Keep us updated and good luck with him
