Facial Exczema

I have an eight year old, speyed female persian who has suffered from facial eczema for the past 5 years. She has been treated with regular steroid injections and Ovarid, but the periods between injections are becoming shorter and shorter to the point where they just dont seem to be working. We have tried changing her diet, making sure she isnt stressed but nothing works. Without the injections she rips herself to pieces, but the steroids dont come without their own problems.

Has anyone has experience of this and has anything worked we are now becoming desperate?

Re: Facial Exczema

Hi cleevale,
As a animal healer, i would if the cats condition was not improving with vets treatment or change of diet. Then try a complementary therapy which can usually be given along side the vets treatment.
Regards Amanda.

Re: Facial Exczema

Don't quote me on this i may get corrected but does she eat from ceramic or metal or plastic food/water dishes. I ask because -again don't quote me-but some cats (moggies and ragdoll types)get facial eczema/acne from certain dishes-just a thought, don't know if theirs truth in it but..Hope you get some sort of resolution as i know it's frustrating as you feel helpless while they go thru the mill, the homeopathy road would be well worth looking into as their are many alternatives and solutions so don't give up

Re: Facial Exczema

Many thanks everyone for your responses. Will try changing her feeding bowls. Any suggestions for a particular homeopathic remedy or complementary therapy would be appreciated. She is particularly bad at the moment and had to resort to steroid injection yesterday to give her some relief. She is now on antibiotics as well.

Re: Facial Exczema

Hi,
I agree with changing the feeding bowls, and also homeopathic remedies, (but seek right advice on this). I myself give reiki to animals for various conditions, ( if i can help you in anyway please contact me ). Also have you thought about cleaning and grooming products you use around your cat.
Regards Amanda.

Re: Facial Exczema

I have a female Persian with exactly the same condition and I am also near to despair, as she fails to respond to steroids for more than a few days at the most and she spends a lot of time with a conical collar over her head to prevent scratching.

I use a mixture of ceraminc and plastic feeding bowls, so I am going to try the same as you. I'd be interested to see how you get on - I will also let you know if I find something that works.
