Feline Gingivitis Stomatitis Complex

Moo has this and I have just read the Study/info from Diane Addie, and I'm now very worried about my little boy, has anybody any experience of this?

I can't find any info on it being contagious as also worried for Maudeybag and the more I google the worse it seems to get so I'm not googling at the mo.

Hobbs any food suggestions as it seems they reccommend either Classic or Applaws with a small mention of Almo nature but also says wet is best but confused as I thought Applaws wet isn't complete, but I'm all of tiz at the mo.

I'm going to book him in on tuesday hopefully for a spot of dentistry, and he is on Metacam and Antrirobe.

Does all make very scary reading, I'm a bit flummoxed by it all at the moment.

Re: Feline Gingivitis Stomatitis Complex

Louie Bobs has lesions around some of his teeth and in spots his gums are red,he also has a broken incisor.I didn't realise this until the vet noticed whilst she was giving him a check-up for another problem. She said oh its common in some breeds and he will prob have to have all his teeth out She mentioned adding something to his drinking water but he has a sensitive tummy. He had some antiiotics and seemed to be eating okay etc.

He then went for his 12 month check up and he saw my usual vet she looked inside his mouth and said yes there were 1 or 2 lesions there but she wasn't overly concerned. She gave me a finger brush and some cat tooth paste.

I saw her again a couple of weeks back and they hadn't got any worse the brushing of the teeth is work in progress.

When was he diagnosed? Sorry don't have any personal experience of this but don't believe it's infectious between animals, more immune mediated.

You could try joining this Yahoo group. Not a member of this particular one but can vouch that these groups are usually an excellent, well-informed source of advice and support!

Re: Feline Gingivitis Stomatitis Complex

GH, has he been properly diagnosed yet? And no more googling for you until it is!

I cannot remember what you feed GH. Dr Addie very much likes the Butcher Classic food and it has acquired this mythical status of being a food that helps with dental issues. To my knowledge, there actually is nothing in the food that aids this. Rather, as far as I know, it is recommended for the very fact that it contains no sugars, grains etc. And there are plenty of other foods that have or rather don't have this and that have a higher meat content, a better ca/p ratio, a better meat/offal ratio and that are just overall more transparently declared, which I would find more desirable.

And yes, I also did see that she recommends Applaws and Almo Nature wet. Not sure why as these are complimentary foods. Just goes to show that experts in their fields are not necessarily also experts in nutrition or available foods.
