What's the best food to feed our cats?

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum - I have 3 cats - 2 8month old maine coons (boy and girl) and one male moggy who's nearly 2.

I really want to feed them the best diet possible and was wondering if somebody knew what is the best cat food to be giving them? I have done quite a bit of reading on this - but there's soooo much info out there to assimilate!

At the moment I'm feeding them primarily Felix As it Looks and Meaty Loaf and they always have James Wellbeloved biscuits out for them. Also recently have tried to alternate the felix with Porta 21 tins. Have recently discovered Encore at Sainsburys which they seem to like too, but won't give that to them that often as it's complimentary.

I know that Felix probably isn't the best stuff for them but I've tried so many things that they won't eat (Bozita - does anyone want any coz I've got a cupboard full?!, schesir, Carney, tesco just nature, Hi Life, Feline Fayre).

I've had a look at quite a few of the brand on the helpful A-Z of wet food and they all seem to have down sides - is there a perfect wet food??

Also considered raw meat - which is actually what the breeder of our 2 maine coon kittens fed her cats - but there's so much conflicting information about whether this is safe or not!

Thanks for your help!

Amy ^o^

Re: What's the best food to feed our cats?

Hey Amy, welcome to the PF. There are a couple of foods that come darn close to being perfect wet foods but they are not easily available in the UK and need to be imported from Germany or the US. And, of course, there is no guarantee that your cats will actually eat them.

Re the raw, as long as you observe basic hygiene it is not any less safe than commercial wet or dry food.

Hi Amy, just wanted to say welcome to the forum and great to have you on board.

Hobbs is the resident dietry dude and is worth listening to.

The only snippet I would add is that, like humans, some cats prefer the junk food so even if there was a 'perfect' food there is no guarantee they would like it.

Re: What's the best food to feed our cats?

Hey. I feed my cat pretty much the same as this.

He gets a sachet of Felix as good as it looks (he wouldn't touch Whiskers!) at about 4pm.

He then has dry down for pretty much the rest of the time as he is an only cat and doesn't seem to be greedy at all.

At the moment he is on James Wellbeloved dry but he doesn't seem overly keen on it. We originally fed him Whiskers dry but he seems so so much fluffier and silkier on 'the posh food' (as my mum calls it!).

The info about just seems to overwhelming I don't know what's best for him! Can't get anything too expensive. Mostly, just get whatever is on offer at P@H.

Hi, Thanks for your reply! I'm happy to import! What's the brand names?

Are they available from zooplus?

Thanks for your help! I'm eager to get some good stuff for them asap..

Thanks to everyone else who has replied too!
