Operation Recovery

Our cat Chester had an operaton yesterday to remove an abcsess from his shoulder. He has stitches a drain and is wearing a buster collar, the vet has given us instruction on how and when to give him his medication but , can anybody give some advice on how we should look after him.

Should we leave him to rest or should we keep stroking him etc... we just don't want him to be distressed any more than he already is !

Re: Operation Recovery

hi, sorry to hear about Chester. I would definitely stroke and make a fuss of him, it will help him to relax You could also give him some treats or a food he really likes, after giving him his medication. Do you have to keep the collar on all the time? Perhaps you could remove it for short periods while he eats, as it's very hard for them to eat wearing one of these. Hopefully he'll be back to normal very soon.

Re: Operation Recovery

I always make a big fuss of mine, if they want it. He will soon let you know if he doesn't. Most of mine welcome the fuss and attention if they are feeling a bit poorly.

Although we had one girl who you could see physically flinching away from us so we just left her until she felt better
