I have seen a nice small once called the Cat-It I think - doesn't look like a urinal. Okay it's plastic which isn't my favourite material but it's quite modest... think we may get that one as it has decent reviews.
Is it the white one? If so, yes it is pretty good. The only reason we switched was because Soots preferred water to drop, like out of a tap. He did like the fact that the water pools up in the top circular bit before trickling down though!

Re: Cat Water Fountains

Actually, I am sure one can make your own with a bit of imagination, a few plastic vessels and a fishtank pump. Mmmmmmm....to the drawing board.

Lots of suggestions for DIY, but I also found an automatic tap for cats which you can build into your handbasin and has a sensor to turn on water! Fantastic idea!

It's quite small - white with a blue rim. Here is the link:

It's on offer at the moment.

@koekemakranka: Hi! Love the idea of an automatic cat sensor for sinks - have you got a link or manufacturer or something? Would love to check it out!

Re: Cat Water Fountains

Just ordered the Catit small drinking fountain... hopefully our kittens will take to it, but if not, at least it was only £15.

Re: Cat Water Fountains

Well, after s few years of loyal service, my Catit finally ground to a halt, and I have just ordered the Drinkwell Platinum foutain> Whoo-hoo!
However, during my research, I came across this great DIY idea for a filtering fountain:

DIY: Make A Filtering Pet Fountain « Pet Project

You just need a large stainless steel (or other suitable material) water bowl and a small aquarium filtering water pump-thingie that hangs on the side. Voila!

Re: Cat Water Fountains

Cat fountains, again so much £ spent on them in our household then finally last week, we opted for the cat mate, best purchase ever and so simple and easy to clean. Why didn't I find this one sooner, would have saved a lot of money. All the others seem to be very gimmicky and cats aren't interested. Both our cats are using the cat mate fountain, it's extremely quiet as well, compact and fits nicely in the corner of our kitchen

We put ours on the floor away from their food bowls (as apparently cats prefer to not have the water and food next to each other) We just happen to have a plug right behind it, so no problems for us.
Apart from being stainless steel, we found it a little gimmicky, cats didn't take to it well and poor design where the lead attaches to the filter. Is a little fiddly to clean as well. Seriously if you want a good fountain, get the cat mate, might look plain, does the job and is attractive 'clean' compact addition to the kitchen. This is coming from someone who is quite particular as to what comes in the house, 'posh' taste you could say, sometimes simplicity is the best!
