lump
i am a bit worried
my little kitten Roxy (14 weeks) had her first vaccinations about 2 weeks ago. i have noticed last week a lump on her hip, i think its a same leg she had her needles in. Does anyone know is it normal? Roxy is playfull and eating, drinking as normal, though if i touch a lump she runs away, so i guess it is painful. she is due for her second vaccinations on 15th of October, do you think i should book her in before? maybe i am over reacting, but... she is my fur baby and i love her to bits ![]() |

Re: lump
vaccinations are usually given as a sub cutaneous injection (under the skin in the tissue) sometimes these can stay under the skin to be absorbed but usually not over more than a couple of days. it's possible the lump is from something else. do the kittens play or fight? might be best to give your vets a ring, they won't do the injections any earlier but they will give you some advice as to how to deal with the lump to be on the safe side.

Re: lump
Unforrunately it's fairly common for vaccinations to cause a lump - it will go away on its own normally, over a week or 10 days but obviously if it doesn't Roxy needs to see the vet again.
what vaccine did she have, out of interest? Quote:

Re: lump
Not sure Kozycat, excuse my ignorance, just a normal vaccination from leukemia etc... i need to come back 3 weeks later from a first vaccination for a second boost. I tried to phone my vet and i spoke with a nurse, so she suggested to bring Roxy in earlier that she is due for her second boost if i am worried, but to be honest, if this is quite common, i don't want to stress Roxy without reason, she hates going to a vet and travelling in the car. She seems playful and mischiev, eating and drinking, so i will probably wait untill next week(she has appiontment on 15 th of October). thanks everybody for your replies and advices

Re: lump
I wasn't sure if you were in the UK, so I wondered if Roxy had had a rabies vaccination, as that's often said to cause problems. I did find with the older leukaemia vaccines that some of my cats would get these lumps, but I haven't seen it for a few years now. If Roxy's lump doesn't get smaller within the next few days perhaps you should see the vet again.

Re: lump
that was another reason I wondered if Bubbles was in the UK because it's more usual in the US to vaccinate in the leg. (thigh)

Re: lump
Oh please I'm pretty sure she knows where her kitten's injection went
![]() I'm Diabetic I inject insulin into my fatty tissue under my skin each day 5/6 times. Sometimes if I have a large dose or use an area without much fat (like your kitten's leg) then sometimes I get a lump. It can go red and stay there for quite a few days. If you are AT ALL worried then take her to the Vets. However, as you say she seems ok then prehaps just wait until October 15th. Just keep an eye on it to ensure it is not getting bigger, feels hot, or she is itching and licking it. |
