Nice try though. Maybe we should lobby Parliament? ...

Well she went for her vet check up today, she's still a little swollen but nothing to worry about. But we're taking her back in next week for final check up and another weigh in. Vet's happy with her weight and muscle tone and said she's in good health just small.

Eating hasn't improved, and Schmusy has now been rejected too.
Any other decent food recs of a similar texture?

Re: Fussy Kitten

Sorry if you've mentioned it before, but have you tried raw feeding?

Sounds like the vet is happy with her though

Re: Fussy Kitten

No, not tried raw. She had a chicken wing a couple of months ago, she went a bit wild with it growling and dragging it round the kitten room! But she didn't actually manage to eat any of it, even when I pulled it apart a bit.
I don't know if that's an indication of whether she'll take to raw or not!

I'm off to read the raw thread!

Re: Fussy Kitten

Well if you've any meat in it won't hurt to try Chicken breast or Turkey is a great starter meat. Just try some small chunks or slithers of it and see how you go.

Itty used to drag her meat around and play with it for a while to start with But I'm pleased to say they all eat their raw from a bowl now. They also seem to sit in one place to eat their wings and necks, thankfully!

Re: Fussy Kitten

Well, slow progress, she's up to about 2 pouches of royal canin kitten a day in lots of tiny meals with a small amount of crushed thrive on top. She's also eating about 25g of dry per day which I've found if I hide in little piles around the house she eats more of it than if it's just in her bowl. She also likes using her treat ball filled with dry so that gets a share of her daily allowance too.

The guidelines are 3-4 pouches or 1 pouch and 35-60g of dry so I don't think we're doing too badly. But boy is it a performance.

I gave her another chicken wing last night which was met with a mixed reception. Ignored at first and then she batted it about a bit and then gave up. I did pick off some bits of meat for her and she ate a little bit of that.

I don't really want her to stay on the RC forever, but I'm happy enough until number 2 arrives (I think we're close to a name now!) and then we'll see how things work out.

Re: Fussy Kitten

Just thought I'd update this thread!

Well Linus arrived and over the last couple of weeks the competitive eating has started! Kiki now actively asks for food and while still doesn't finish her bowl every time, she's eating a lot more enthusiastically now. She's trying other brands too, currently we switch between Schmusy and Royal Canin which they both seem to like and we're about to try Bozita in gravy.

She likes to see what he's eating and can often be found cleaning out his bowl (even when she's got some left!)

Linus is the complete opposite to Kiki though, and snuffles around eating about anything he can get his paws on!
