Keep us posted The vet will probably ask you to bring him in for further blood tests in about a months time, when he has had time to settle on to his new food and the pills have taken a good effect. Hopefully it should keep his levels in check!

I've scoured the net, and now I get all my renal food from VetUK. Not only are the prices good, but I've found the delivery excellent too - particularly when you've run out and are desperate! They text you on the day to say when it will roughly arrive and give you the opportunity to delay it if you're not around...

Betty (my cat) likes the Royal canin pouches best - chicken and tuna - but I've bought a selection and some biscuits too, as cats with renal failure end up having a poor variety and you know how fussy cats can be!

Last week she refused to eat anything, so I mixed in a bit of normal food which stimulated her appetite again. It's best they eat something than nothing at all. I haven't used the appetite stimulant sprays yet, so I'd be curious how people have got on with these...

Re: When do you say enough?

I bought Hills KD pouches and some biscuits from VetUk and yes you are right the service is excellent. I got an email stating the time of delivery.

Kenny absolutely loves both and the biccies are very small, soft and meaty which helps with his lack of teeth. He's spending alot of time indoors the last couple of days and slept "in the middle" last night which he usually does when he particularly likes something that I've done for him.

Re: When do you say enough?

slight hiccup

Kenny has very runny diarrhoea - the colour is fine and there's no mucous so I'm assuming it's either the change in diet or starting fortekor that has caused it. He also vomited back his biscuits last night but that's nothing new - he was a stray when he came to me and has always been a guzzler when it comes to food. He quite often eats too much then it all comes back and he never learns!

Re: When do you say enough?

Have you introduced the new food very gradually? Important to nip the diarrhea in the bud considering it will interfere with absorption of the hyperT medication. Hope you're giving this twice daily and not once? Otherwise you'll be back to square one with inadequate control of the conditon!

Re: When do you say enough?

Ahh didn't think about going in gradually. I'll start mixing it with the old stuff and wean him off over a few days

I have been splitting the felimazole and giving 12 hourly though.

Re: When do you say enough?

Betty's had occasional bouts of diarrhea, but it usually calms down after a day or two. Also I think the vomiting can be a side effect of the tablets, but like you said this can be quite common for cats to vomit anyway so it's hard to tell...

By the way - be careful with splitting or crushing the tablets. Check with your vet that this is okay. My cat is on a different medication - vidalta, 10mg carbimazole - but I was told not to crush the tablets, as they have a special coating to stop the stomach acids destroying the active ingredient.

It may be okay in your case, but worth checking!

Re: When do you say enough?

Its less common for vomiting to be a side effect of the pills than for it to be a common symptom of both hypert and crf.

The diarhea will be down to the sudden change in food, cats tummies are sensitive
We tried mixing it out but Sooty went off his previously beloved james wellbeloved senior and would only eat the k/d biscuits. His tummy calmed down after a few days though
