Re: rheumatism/arthritis

Glad to hear it's warm then! Poor thing! Yes, it all appears quite strange. As long as it isn't painful.

I would just say to the vets you'd like to discover what's causing it. Not sure if normal blood tests would reveal very much but on the other hand they might point to something the vets haven't thought of. At any rate with the kidney problems etc probably a good idea to have them done.

I'd certainly like to rule out any physical problems before moving on to neurological ones.

Good luck with vet visit!

The vets said they didn't think she was in much pain at all. Thank you for chatting with me! Please say a prayer for us both.

Thanks for your support, that's reall kind of you.

Ok little update, been speaking to the vets again, they said if it was a blood clot she would be in pain and feel cold, again they do not think it is diabetes either. When they run their fingers down the right side of her back there is not a reaction so they are adamant it is a spinal/nerve problem. They said the only way to tell what is wrong is a MRI scan which costs £1000 plus, I am insured but have to pay a £240 excess.

But I have more questions for the vet tomorrow and have to weigh it all up, if it is something on her spine - what in their opinion could it possibly be and in those circumstances what would be the treatment and the success rates for the treatments?

Also how long would she have to go under as she is 15 now and has had kidney probs and thyroid problems since she was 9. So there is so much to weigh up, my head is full of so many concerns.

On another note, there is still some strength in the top of her leg because she lifted it up to clean under it today, she also can walk when she gets into a rhythm, the problem is her front bit of the paw often gets stuck under when she moves forward, when the paw/pad hits the ground how it should she manages ok. So do any of you know how a bandage of some sort would support her paw leg to give it more strength and to stop her paw curling under as she moves her leg forward?

Re: rheumatism/arthritis

She may not tolerate the bandage, since many cats don't but I'd ask the vets for one just the same.

Also make sure you tell them about the mobility she has as well. I find this a bit strange considering they're adamant it's a spinal problem combined with the response to Metacam in the early stages. I assume the vet did a thorough physical exam as well when you brought her last time? You could also ask about ligament damage as well as this can progress from minor lameness to more severe symptoms like this.
