Tempting cat

Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about tempting a cat to eat more.

One of mine is not overly fussed about eating much & could do with a little bit more weight. I have tried cat milk, I have tried different wet foods (the only one she seems to like but still doesn't eat loads of is a prescription food I had left in the cupboard from Hills), I have given her bits of ham/chicken. She just doesn't seem that interested.

Re: Tempting cat

I have an on going battle with Meeko ,trying to get him to eat wet food,he is a dry food junkie.I find sprinkling crushed treats(thrive in particular)or some of his dry food crushed helps, also you could try Brewers Yeast tiny pinch sprinkled over it Holland and Barrett - Brewers Yeast Powder .

Re: Tempting cat

Have you tried her with a bit of raw meat at all? Chicken or Lamb chunks are great to try.

Re: Tempting cat

Or a little bit of white fish?

Though if she has a good body scoring (ask your vet), is a healthy weight and seems happy and healthy in herself then I wouldn't worry

Re: Tempting cat

I've tried meat but not raw, admittedly.

Is that yeast powder really tempting then?

If it is a normally super tempting food she will lick it & walk off after a minute or so.

Re: Tempting cat

To add to what the lasses have said before me (crushed treats, brewer's yeast and raw food), you could also try to see whether:

- sprinkling some catnip on the food does the trick
- if she likes fish, whether adding tuna water floats her boat more. Only problem is that you then need to wean her off it gradually

But brewer's yeast always gets my vote (but not all cats like it and it shouldn't be used for cats with known yeast infections and kidney issues - high in phosphorus).

Re: Tempting cat

Right. I will have to look into it. Thank you! Pretty sure none of them like fish but I can try that too again.
