If she was anaphylactic you would know as when she used to visit she would have gone into anaphylactic shock. From what you have described it sounds like allergy triggered asthma and the usual allergy response.

some allergies can actually get worse with exposure.

i only asked as she didn't specify how allergic her mum was!

I agree Twinkles, saying that her mam may be anaphalatic is a bit drastic. She most likely has a severe allergy to cat hair or could be asthmastic.
