What is a good cat treat?
I can't find anything that Molly and Candy really like!
I've tried Thrive, and those stick things, and the fish shaped biscuits that cats have had for thirty odd years, including all of my cats in the past - nothing doing. I'm guessing that they'll like ham and sliced chicken but as discussed on another thread that ain't good for them. I need something that keeps for a while once opened or that I can freeze. If it's meat it must be ready-cooked or not too bloody as I haven't handled meat in 20 yrs . I don't mind giving them those dried whitebait things but I've heard they can't have too much fish at once? They did have some sardines in oil but again I'm guessing that shouldn't be fed too often? Thanks! TC. |

Re: What is a good cat treat?
I got the sample of this Great Bargains on Cosma Snacks at zooplus: Freeze-dried Cat Snacks Cosma snackies which is probably the same stuff as Thrive, although in the reviews someone mentioned that their cats don't like thrive and love Cosma, so I don't know how successful it would be with Molly and Candy. Ari goes mad for it.
She purrs when she sees me reaching for the box, purrs while eating, tries to open the storage unit and I swear that she quits playing with me and stands in front of the storage unit just to say "I've been cute enough, now it's time for my treat".![]() I got a stick one that she enjoyed, specially to carry around and play before eating. She doesn't like the dried anchovies thing, though. Fish Dog Chews: great selection at zooplus: Karlie Ocean Diner Anchovies which she would lick and play and then forget about it under the sofa ![]() |

Re: What is a good cat treat?
A tip for those buying cat treats on zooplus - also check out the dog treat section. That section is full of great treats that also cats will enjoy, e.g. lamb lung, venison liver etc.
![]() Oily fish is great about once a week. You could also try a little bit of probiotic yoghurt or some egg (either raw or scrambled) |

Re: What is a good cat treat?
Thank you, everyone!
Tatilie, my dog used to leave pigs' ears buried on the curtains! I will have a look at the treats that you mention.Hobbs, thank you, lambs' lung, mmm! Thankfully I have no issue with which bit of the animal they eat so long as I don't need to cook it! I also eat probiotic yogs and scrambled eggs myself - all organic - so we can share a treat which will be nice! Thanks for the oily fish tip. ![]() Gobubbles, will give those a try too, thank you. ![]() Good job I need to do a zooplus order! ![]() |

Re: What is a good cat treat?
I posted this somewhere else recently. I read this somewhere (haven't verified it so not sure whether it is true but it rings true) that yoghurt has less lactose than milk and probiotic yoghurt has even less lactose than normal yoghurt. That is why even lactose intolerant cats and dogs are perfectly fine eating dollops of probiotic yoghurt.
Mine love a bit of yoghurt and have it with no ill effect. So may be worth a try as the bacteria would also be good for their gut, particularly when they have an iffy tum. |
