Feline Aids-I need help.

I found out last Thursday that my cat (Sharma) has feline aids. (I've already posted some details on the Intro site as I'm new).
He's an 8 year old Tom who was neutered as a kitten and had all the usual jabs. We suspect he was bitten 3-4 years ago and the full blown aids has just raised it's ugly head.
Over the last 6 months he had been losing a bit of weight, which I wasn't concerned with as he was getting to be a bit of a lump. A couple of months ago he was having sneezing fits, still not worried as he'd had flu jabs. Then he seemed to have trouble eating and swallowing so decided the vet was due a visit. She found bad teeth and abcesses so operated and he returned home with antibiotics.
He seemed to be perking up and was really hungry even though eating was difficult following the surgery. A week later he suddenly stopped asking me for food....that's not my cat....so back to the vets. Blood tests revealed the truth, it came as a massive shock, he'd always been so big and fit..a proper "Jack the Lad".
He's now on antibiotics again and must go back to the vet on Saturday. Monthly jabs to boost his immune system will be the only medication of any help. I know what's round the corner, but in the meantime I want to give him a good quality of life and feed him with the most nutritious things I can to help his immune system.
If anyone has "been there" or has any advice I would be grateful.

Re: Feline Aids-I need help.

I'm really sorry to hear about your boy.

I don't know much about feline aids but I'm sure someone here will know more than I do.

I found this on the web, I hope it answers some of your questions for you.

What an awful thing to happen. I am really sorry that this has happened to your little chap.

I only wish I could give you some advice, unfortunately I don't know anything about Feline Aids.

Re: Feline Aids-I need help.

Thank you. You are all so quick and helpful!
I forgot to add the one positive that has come out of this situation. Sharma was never what you'd call a "cuddle cat" but since he's been ill he comes to bed with me every night, lays on my chest, snuggles his face into my neck and purrs wildly! I think it's his way of saying thanks mum!!

Bluebird. I am so very sorry about your little man. I am not familiar with the Aids Virus, but if there is anything I can do (research etc) that will help you please just ask. If nothing else we are all here to listen. Take care x x x
