3 month old ragdoll sneezing and eye gunk

I'm so sorry to have to keep pestering you all but you've all been such a wonderful help so far.

Adopted fur baby #2 recently and he is absolutely amazing. Kitten through and through, if he isn't asleep he's playing and if I can't hear him I get worried.

My question relates to sneezing, he's been sneezing a little bit and has a slightly damp, cold nose. Is this normal for a kitten who has just had his vaccinations, can they, like humans, pick up a very mild form of the symptoms for a few days? It's really only one sneeze every half hour or hour or so.

He also has a little bit of eye discharge. Nothing major; I assume it's just a little bit of sleep and as he's a kitten he's not very good at getting rid of it yet. It's quite hard and brown and small amounts collect in the corners of his eyes. Should I leave them or remove them?

Aside from that he's eating, mewing, using his litter tray, and just seems to be enjoying being a kitten (he's sitting purring away on my desk as I type this) so I'm not overly concerned but will certainly keep an eye on it unless anyone on here advises me differently?

Kittens like all animals/people may have adverse reactions to vaccines.

Personally if he were mine I'd call my vet surgery and speak to vet nurse for advice on this one ...

For his eyes, I would gently remove eye discharge using a small piece of cotton wool, wet and squeezed out (COOL water that has been previously boiled.) Wipe from inner corner out. If they are red or sore looking, seek vet care.

Chances are he will be fine in a few days, so I wouldn't worry too much, he sounds great in other ways, but remember small kittens can go downhill quickly so be careful!

Re: 3 month old ragdoll sneezing and eye gunk

MY mum has a raggie with snotty eyes, he sneezes out big dollops of snot too, makes me gag!! He lets my mum wipe his eyes and nose, she rescued him a few years ago, we think he may have had cat flu as a kitten and he has been left with snuffles. He is otherwise fit and healthy and has regular vet check ups.

My youngest also came to us with the sneezes, no eye bogies but a lot of sneezing, she grew out of it after a few months, prob the same thing a remnant from previous cat flu.

Anyway the upshot is they are both fine and I am sure your kitten is too

No snot when he's sneezing and he lets me remove the eye gunk. To be honest upon further examination I'm sure it's just sleep, it's actually settling quite far from his eye and his eyes themselves are completely crystal clear and infection free.

Re: 3 month old ragdoll sneezing and eye gunk

Ive not had a cat for years, but I know sneezing and discharge from the eyes can be a sign of cat flu. As he is so young and if he has only just had the vacs. Then personally I would get it checked if he were mine or at least call the vet, to ask their advice. At least that way your mind may be put at rest.
Or if it is anything meds at the first instance if needed, would be better than waiting and getting in early, before anything further might develope.

My ragdoll kitten is the same. The occasional sneeze, maybe once or twice a day. I think his own fur tickles his nose. He also gets sleep in his eyes every day. So it seems normal to me. Still, if you have any concerns, phone the vet for assurance.

Ive never had this with any of my rags or kittens, so for me it isnt normal, yes a odd bit of sleep, which I have to say that I rarely see, but I think ive only ever seen 2 of my cats sneeze and one time was because he smelled a curry....

I agree with Taylorbaby i do not want to worry you but i had a Ragdoll kitten with your symtems he also did not grow or put on the weight he should have and despite many visits to the vet they could not find anything wrong untill he was nearly a year old and he was treated for conjuntivitis but it wasn't he went downhill rapidly and collapsed the vet rushed him in to the vet hospital and put him on a drip and 2 weeks later i lost him they said it was FIP and he probably had the corona virus (i think that is what they called) it but his blood cell count went down to 12 and the vet said the kindest thing to do was to let him go as if it went down to 10 we would lose him anyway he was 5 days from being a year old when we lost him i really do not want to cause you worry but i would keep on top of this and go back to the vet if only to put your mind at rest I have another Ragdoll now and he is absolutely fine grown into a big fellow he has

R.I.P my little Baily i miss you loads
