Pus and the Puss.

Hi there, first time post!

Our fluffy ginger 3 year old, Hershey, has been a little down in the dumps for the last few days and we think we've found out why. After his weekly brush, pus started to 'flow' out from near his back leg. We wiped it clean, but it was clearly upsetting him.

He's settled down since, but he's a bit agitated (being furry) that he can't get to the wound himself. Now, we presume since it's pus that the wound isn't too bad, as it's not outwardly bleeding (we could be horribly wrong however!)

We don't want to take him to the vet just for this, but obviously if we need to we will. Do you think he'll be able to get to the wound for him to deal with, or should we cut some of the fur away so he can have easier access?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Pus and the Puss.

If there is pus coming out of the wound its infected and will need antibiotics so you will have to take him to the vet!

the longer you leave it the worser it could get

Re: Pus and the Puss.

Hi and welcome to you.
Does your cat go out. Sounds like he has been in a fight or sustained an injury from something. Pus means it's infected. You should get him to your vets for a check, as most likey he will need some anti biotics. You could try bathing it with some boiled, let to cool til warm salty water and cotton wool, for tonight

Hi there

Just keep the wound clean and pop him to the vets as soon as you can.

Yes, he does go out, being a feisty ginge he's a bit of a fighter. He's been known to have a bit of a ding-dong with a black and white cat in the area, so no doubt they've been at it again!

We'll take your advice and get an appointment with the vet tomorrow. Poor chap!

Thanks very much.

Neill.

Re: Pus and the Puss.

Hershey has had his short trip to the vets and he's just fine. Contrary to what we had thought, he'd done a great job of cleaning himself up.

He's had two shots of anti-biotics (I think one was a painkiller) and true to form has gone out for the evening to show off his battle-scars!

Thanks to those that posted their kind thoughts.

Love,

Neill & Tina (Hersh's proud owners)
