Exclamation Cat ate clumping cat litter - won't eat, diarrhea - help?

Pawlee has been caged for almost 7 weeks recovering from broken pelvis (hit by a car) - today she won't eat and has diarrhea with a gel like substance - suspect she's eaten some clumping cat litter - how can I treat her? She is really sick and it's Sunday - vet offices are closed - will it pass on its own?

Needless to say after reading about this on the internet, I'm shocked and upset that I didn't know about the dangers of clumping cat litter - I won't use it again but now I have a sick cat - any help is appreciated... at least to get her through the weekend until she can get to the vet!!

Thanks.

Re: Cat ate clumping cat litter - won't eat, diarrhea - help?

Is she an adult cat or kitten. Kittens will eat cat litter, like human babies like to taste everything. An adult cat would'nt really bother. I suspect it's probably something to do with the injury. If Pawlee is causing you concern, there should be a 24 hr vets open in your area. My best advice is to get her seen as soon as you can.
I use chick crumbs for my litter, they are totally safe for cats/kittens

Re: Cat ate clumping cat litter - won't eat, diarrhea - help?

I've read about home remedies to treat cat diarrhea in the interim; like feeding them chicken broth from a feeding syringe - we still have one from having to give her the pain meds 7 weeks ago after the accident. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for calming her stomach - she seems a bit better already but still won't eat. Going to give it a few hours to see if she drinks or eats something. If not, I'll have to take her somewhere to get checked - if I can find a place in our area. I think there's a vet hospital somewhere in this city.

Anyway, what are "chick crumbs" and where do you get it? Would a pet store have it? Thanks!

hes a lab so he eats anything and everything,

he ate a whole tray last week! we came down about 5am and he had s*it all by the patio door, it was a puddle about 2 foot in diameter, no exageration!

not what i wanted to smell 1st thing, it took some cleaning up

it must be the wheat that goes through him.

Chicken broth thats a new one on me. Have you any white fish you could boil for him. Or a tin of tuna, that always goes down well for a cat that won't eat.
Chick crumbs you can get from anywhere that sells to farms. Or google chick crumbs for sale in your area
