I had Rufus vaccinated and microchipped last night. I was expecting vaccinations (full course) to come to about £60 and microchipping to be around £15-20.

My bill was £120! My OH's eyes nearly fell out of his head! (as did mine!).

I know that money isn't the be all and end all - but it is still important. Do you think this price is reasonable (for rural Wales) or do you think it's worth looking for a different vet for the future? My friend said she paid less that that to have both her cat and dog vaccinated, deflead and wormed at another vet (which we are actually already registered at, but is further away).

£120 for ONE cat?

Just thinking, are these the two kitten ones perhaps and not a booster one? Even then, that seems extortionate. Did it perhaps include some other, previously unpaid consultation costs or something?

Louie is due his booster next month I was thinking £30ish

His chip was £10 last September

All my children have paws!

They were his first vaccinations. He is 6 months old but hadn't been vaccinated () by his last owner.

We always use him for our small furries and he's been very, very cheap - so we were a bit surprised! Lesson learnt I suppose! I would have felt rude to stand there and say, "whaaaaaat?!" when he told me how much!

'Pets at home' have an offer on at the moment... £25 for my puppies first course of injections which also includes, worming, de fleaing and a bag of food!
Not all shops have a vet service though and probably not in rural Wales!

that can't be right surely!!

my 3 kittens and their mummy are all having theirs for £130!!

i would have deffo questioned that.

No ours don't. We have used Companion Care for the rats when we lived in Manchester though and they were very good, it's a shame we don't have them round here.

That does sound very expensive.The vets I use are sometimes more expensive for things like vaccs,neutering ect but even they would not be anywhere close to that.What exactly did they charge for.Have you got an itemised receipt.

Considering that you have used him before, why don't you pop by their surgery on Monday and ask them about that price. That sounds almost triple of what I would expect to pay for it (ok, it includes microchipping but that isn't more than £15). Could just be human error somewhere.

The receipt was handwritten and all it says is:

vax (full) + micro + VAT = £117 (I rounded up, sorry!)
