Cat being sick and having diarrohea

Just wondered if anyone on here can help us. We have just had our cat over a week and she seems to be settling in well, but yesturday and today she has been sick and has had diarohhea a few times. We are wondering if its milk that we have given her or the food she is on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Cat being sick and having diarrohea

cut out the milk all together
with hold food for 24 hours and then feed her small amounts of fish or chicken
if still not right or she gets worse take her to your vets

Re: Cat being sick and having diarrohea

Its is quite common for kittens to get a bit ill as they adapt to their new environment.

Have you been feeding the same food as the breeder was feeding?

Just to add to Emmars suggestion, boiled white fish, or boiled/grilled chicken (no fat/skin).

When we got her from the RSPCA, they told us that she is fed on whiskas, felix or any brand of cat food, so we have been giving her sainsbury's own brand of pouches.

Me and my boyfriend think now that its the milk, so she is just going to have water. Although we have bought her some cat milk from asda today, so we could try her on that i suppose when she is better.

Re: Cat being sick and having diarrohea

my cat had this when we first got her. Vet advised us to starve her for 24 hours and then give her some chicken or fish with rice. I have to say she was not very keen on it, but it stopped diarohea. Then we gradualy put her on Nature: menu and she is fine now. Also any milk including special one for cats gives her diarohea, so i would keep away from milk

Water Water Water i have found that the cat milk even meant to be for cats gives most cats the runs. Just make sure that your kitten is drinking water and if it gets no better in the next day or so id suggest a trip to the vet. cats in general can dehydrate very quicklly. Boiled white fish or plain cooked chicken is normally recomended

Re: Cat being sick and having diarrohea

contrary to the rumors and stories of cats loving milk and drinking cream they like it but it is not good for them. don't feed dairy to your kitty. the cats milks are better but really not that good for them either and you're really not benefiting your cat by giving it to them. best to stick to cat food (felix is a good choice from what you mentioned) wet or dry if you choose. i think most of us feed both by choice. I know I feed mostly dry and some raw and cooked meats. if you want to treat your cat stay clear of the milk and offer them something more natural like meats. can you really see a cat milking a cow, goat or sheep?
