rabbit and cat!

Hi, have just got a couple of 6 week old kittens, I also have a rabbit who comes into the house in the evenings. We have been trying to introduce the kittens and rabbit to each other (supervised) and it all seemed to go well, the boy didn't like the rabbit but the girl would tolerate him - however tonight (this has been going on for a few days) I caught the rabbit trying to mate with the kitten, I took the rabbit off her but I'm worried he might have hurt her, although she seems fine - I'm not sure how long he was on top of her for but assume it can't have been that long (as I check reguarly on them all) and she didn't mieow or anything, but then I've looked underneath her and there seems to be a little clog of what looks like blood round her bottom, but not sure whether it deffinately is blood or not or whether it was there before (it's quite dark) - she's been fine since.
Just looking for a bit of reassurance or if there's anything I should look out for, also should I take her to vets to be sure or am I worrying over nothing, would have thought that she would have mieowed if he hurt her - also he didn't really pin her down because she is quite small.
Just a bit worried!

Licking, scratching and dragging. If she is doing any of these she is at the very least uncomfortable down there. Otherwise, you're ok.

Hi, I presume your bunny isnt neutered? I got a kitten a couple months ago and was worried sick about introducing her to my 5yr old (huge) dwarf lop. Cheeko (the bunny) is neutered and the most placid docile bunny around and luckily all seems to be going well, we have the odd scurmish usally started by Tiffany (15wk old kitten) as she can't resit sneeking up on him and pawing him so he chases her, normally nothing happens one chases one runs then they swap over. The other night though I got a fright, Cheeko was stradling the kitten, she was on her back all 4 legs in the air and he was right above her, no meowing or hissing (infact Tiffany has never hissed now I think about it!) and she managed to get away. I don't think he was trying to mate with her but maybe if he hadn't been snipped????
Anyway I just wanted to reassure you that I think the bunny kitty relationship can work, even if they aren't best friends they can live together fine, we even leave them both the run of the flat all day and so far so very good, no fur flying. Good luck x

Think I might go to vets tuesday and get him neutered, the little girl and him get on well and I have seen them playing - just wondered whether his instincts got the better of him, also seems unfair since I don't want to breed him, but while he's like this can't really have him in the house much as not fair to kitten so he's limited to a couple of hours a night inside under constant supervision - not fair on him when he's used to being in from 3.30 to 10.00 even though his cage is massive. Your kitten and bunny situation seems good and I'm sure that once he is neutered he will be better - last time I enquired about this at the vets she said that they have done numerous bunny neutering (however did say that they couldn't guarantee he would deff survive, but they said this about last cat and dog we had as well, so think this could be insurance thing!).
Thanks for your reply

Re: rabbit and cat!

The vet is just covering his back. There is a saying that smaller the beast higher the risk, this is due to their capacity to deal with the anaesthetic, but as long as your vet is good and experienced with bunnies it should be fine. Cheeko was home in a few hours and right as rain after a couple days he was only a few months old though but I think its only females who are more complicated the older they are, with boys its just snip snip regardless of age I think.
Another thing, I made sure my bunny had priority, this has been his house for 5 years after all, everything was new for the kitten so it was her who had to get used to him. I made sure he felt safe and secure and also in control of his space, the kitten has had to learn who is boss! I did this as I think cats have more chance to injure a bunny than vice versa so if she accepted him as boss I was limiting possible conflict. Seems to be working so far anyway.
