New to this site

Hi Frist of all my name is Angela im 21 from Devon torquay.
I have 3 persian cats 2 at 8 and one at 7.

Sad thing i was told yesterday that out biggest male Leo has Kidney disease and not to hold out much hope on him surviving much longer, he is on tablets at the mo and will soon go onto a powder aswell to bind something together that his kidneys are producing to much of, this of course was horrible news to get because he was the frist persian we got before the other two and is very loving and affcinate and then to suddenly change and just hide away, was horrible but he has icked up a bit we are hoping he will put a bit of weight on which he has lost because youc an feel his bones.

What i am worried about now as sad as it is to think about im wondering if anyone has had cats grow up together like our 3 and what they will be like after losing Leo, weather they will suddenly go funny or get ill or soemthing.

Thank you for any advice.
Angela

Hello Angela and welcome to this board. Whilst it is good to hear generally that you have 3 persians, its sad to hear about your poor boy with kidney disease. I cannot really answer your specific question about the other three. It could be that they will mourn for a little while and gradually get used to his absence, when the time comes. There are persian breeders on here who can give you better advice perhaps.

Sending best purrs.

Re: New to this site

thanks for the reply, he was outside most of the evening he likes to lay there now and just watch everything that happens normally if someone walked by the gate he would run in terrified and then creap back out, but now it dont bother him.

We have to take him in at 9.10 on wednesday morning for blood test to see if tablets have done anything, but he hasnt changed much yet he still isnt eating wet food he will only eat biscuits which i ave read isnt good if they have a kidney probably they need wet food aswell.
He isnt in pain which is the main thing he still purrs and rolls around sometimes very rare now though. but he purrs a lot even for the vet.

I'm sorry to hear your sad news Angela. How did you first notice Leo's illness?

Re: New to this site

he just became very thin and started drinking a lot we thought he was drinking a lot due to the weather cause although not sunny much it was still hot.
But it was the weight loss that worried at frist we thought it was cause he missed us we had just been away on holiday for 4 days but then when he carried on losing weight very quickly he went from 12lb to 7lb in 5 weeks and we thought we would get him checked, the vet didnt think it was Kidney's either he gave him a wormer and said if it dint work it was probably his thyroid.
He did put a 1lb on in weight after the wormer but still wasnt right and that was when he had the blood tests, but we saw a diff vet this time a women who works there not the bloke.
