Just lighten up a bit. I'm saying I know its awful when you lose a pet, however it happens but you must be very easily offended to be offended by a smiley face on a forum which had nothing to do with anyone's cat being run over... If you still can't understand this then go and read a dictionary.

Re: Indoor or outdoor?

I can imagine you found it amusing Dawny but personally I found it upsetting too.

I for one didnt know you were a vets nurse until I read later on therefore didnt understand the joke.

I guess some of us are more sensitive to subjects that are close to our hearts. I feel so angry at the person who killed my cat(s) whilst driving and thats why I couldnt find it amusing.

I was just thinking - you go to the Vets, trusting them your loved pet, but they are not always feel the same.....Unfortunately.

I have two rescue cats that were ferels got them from CPL i never let them out they would go back to being ferel, as one after two years we still cant stroke only if she wants it, Lilly is a big softy now, but Daisy will only allow touch now and again, i left a window open and daisy jumped out and jumped right back in she frightend herself , i supose after being out for over two years they are quite happy to be house cats , so im happy to have them that way to so i know they are safe that way.

How dare you suggest that I am nothing but compassionate about my job. Of course I understand the loss of a pet, I am a pet owner myself and I feel my heart drop a bit each time I have to help a client through the loss of their own pet. Clients have done nothing but thank me for my support when I have helped with the PTS of their pet. And as a student with, compared to a qualified vet nurse, not much experience, I am extremely proud of this.

I would go the extra mile every single time to help save someone's pet, this is why I made the offending comment in the first place. I know it was said in jest but its true. Most people would just drive on or not bother doing anything with the cat, thinking its on its last legs. I would, no matter what I was doing or where I was going, immediately rush it to work and pay for the treatment, whether it be a pet, stray or feral.

Some pet owners themselves do not even care about treatment of their own pets.

I remember one particular client brought in a hamster with three legs. Their cat had bitten the fourth one off but of course the hamster "wasn't in pain". They had a choice to either pay to get his wound stitched up and have a happy, healthy three-legged hamster or to just put him to sleep. At first they chose to pts because they weren't even willing to pay for a stitch up. At this point, I would have paid for his op and taken him home but thankfully they decided to pay for the op. No doubt the cat would have been allowed to play with the hamster again though...

Re: Indoor or outdoor?

My daughter has 3 indoor cats, one at 16, one at 15 and a younger one at 6 months. They are allowed in the garden while she is there and they never attempt to roam. They come when they are called first time. In fact they are better behaved that my dogs!

Indoor or outdoor?

I have read all the replies and they are varied. My personal feeling is that if a kitten goes to a home where there is even the slightest danger of being run over, then I would say keep it as an indoor cat. Cats do not need a lot of space as such. They like vertical space, i.e. climbing and jumping up to places. They will not miss the outdoors if they have never experienced it. I have a few indoor cats who are happy and not in the least stressed. They have the whole of the house to roam in, lots of toys and vertical structures. They are safe from traffic, no chance of catching fatal infections, no chance of human abuse, etc. So I think you must add up all the positive and the negative reasons for keeping your precious cat indoors. I know that you will be surprised at just how many positives you get.
