Red face Skinny kitten

have just taken in a 9 week old kitten. She seems really thin , i can feel her ribs and her back end looks narrow. Is it just a case of feeding her up or is there something else i could/should be doing.

Thanks

Joules

You will need to worm her, young kittens need worming regular.(as do adult cats but more frequent when they are young)You can get worming tablets from your vets or on the shelve at your local supermarket,Asda or Tesco's. They will only set you back a couple of pounds.

But for your kitten to grow and get all the nutrition from the food, you defianately have to worm her.

Re: Skinny kitten

I would definitely NOT get worming products from the supermarket, especially not Bob Martin products.

The first thing you should really do is get the kitten to a vet. Get the little thing checked over and make sure she hasn't got a nasty illness which is making her lose weight or not gain.

Can you weigh the little one to give us an idea of how thin you're talking? If you can weigh her on some digital kitchen scales that would be perfect. She needs to be about 900grms, so let us know what she weighs and lots of us can try and help from there ... IF it is an eating problem. I must stress that it's important that your vet checks her over first and foremost. Your vet will give you the best worming treatment, and also the right amount for her size.

Please come back and let us know how you get on, and we would love to see some pictures.

Re: Skinny kitten

Oh dear

Can you get her to a vet today to rule out illness and to get her wormed properly?

Re: Skinny kitten

OP, your kitten is terribly underweight, she really needs to see a vet, sooner rather than later.

She should weigh around 900-1000 grams... she is half of what she should be.

A vet is needed here.

Urgently!

Kittens do need worming, but the last thing you want with this kitten is a bout of diarea, it could kill her... so I would not recommend worming unless under instructions of a vet.
