Kitten with jaw problem

I recently adopted two kittens from Cats Protection, sisters, both beautiful tabbies. After taking them for their second set of injections I decided to register them with my old vet and he noticed that one of the kittens has a shorter lower jaw than normal. He advised that this should have been picked up previously and that it will involve some serious dentistry and expense. The kitten's lower fangs are digging into her hard palate behind her upper teeth and this could cause long term damage if left for too long. The kitten in herself is fine, playing and eating but I'm still worried about was lays ahead for her.

Has this happened with anyone else's kitten? She's beautiful and I couldn't stand her being in pain.

Re: Kitten with jaw problem

Welcome to the pf MrsMoulds! I am afraid I cannot help you with your query but I didn't just want to read and run. One of my cats has a slight underbite but nothing like you describe.

Best of luck with it and I am sure someone will be along with some help soon. Please keep us updated though.

Oh, and congrats on your rescue kittens! Are they insured?

Re: Kitten with jaw problem

Hi Hobbs2004,

Yes they are insured. I'm taking the kitten for a second opinion next week and the vet I'm seeing is clued up on pet insurance. He should be able to advise me on the best course of action re: Wendy's teeth and what to tell the insurance company. Fingers crossed!
