No, dry food isn't necessary, and while Grau make good wet food their dry food is pretty average really and contains grains.

If you are worried about them eating during the day then you could invest in an automatic feeder which would mean that could have a meal in the middle of the day.

For more info have a look at Hobbs new thread Feeding cats for beginners (and more seasoned cat owners alike) it's in progress but has good info about why dry food is unnecessary.
