Expressing Cat Milk for newborn Kitten!!

Hi, we have 4 newborn kittens approx. 16 hours old and one is not feeding, much smaller than the other three and is feeling cold. We called the vet and were put through to the evening emergency line and they told us to express milk from the mother and feed it to the kitten. We were told to squeeze nipple and express milk into a dish - sounds easy but has anybody done this? Mum's not playing game and I'm wondering if the vet thought we said cow not cat! Any help most welcome as I don't think the kitten will last the night.
Thanks, Mark.

I agree that this kitten will not make the night without food.

Don't go away, someone on this forum will be able to help you.

At the moment I am thinking condensed milk... anyone else?

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. I think you can add some honey.

I am just looking through some old posts, so hopefully will be able to find the instructions.

Re: Expressing Cat Milk for newborn Kitten!!

hi hope this will help this is emergency kitten formula so should work for the nite then i recomend getting some formula from a pet shop anyway heres the recipe
3 oz condensed milk
3 oz water
4 oz plain yogurt (not low fat)
3 large or 4 small egg yolks - no whites
Feed small amounts every 2 hours from a syringe and dont forget your going to have to stimulate the kitten to go toilet using warm wet cotton wool oh and a heat pad or hot water bottle to keep it warm to !
good luck

Yes carnation milk, a bit of honey and diluted.. But if she is going Tescos get her to look on cat section for Lactol or Cimicat milk. Not just Whiskas kitten milk or owt like that, thats no good and you will be better with the carnation

Also don't attempt to feed the kitten if it is cold, it needs to be brought up to normal body temperature gradually.
