Hairballs in Persians?

Is this a common thing and what is the best thing to treat it?

I have just adopted two 13 week old persian kittens and although i groom them everyday i worry that hairballs are always a possibility?

Should i be giving them a hairball treatment daily, or do you only give it when they actually have hairballs?

many thanks

Rachel x

Re: Hairballs in Persians?

You can get food that is good for hairball control, Royal Canin do one. It pretty much goes with the breed though, mine are often coughing them up

Re: Hairballs in Persians?

Hi, i feed my 2 cats royal cannin intense hairball, i also use defurrum when they are moulting, or gagging.
i either let them lick it straight from the tube or put the paste on my finger and apply to the roof of their mouth.
i would also reccomend a "zoom groom" brush, they are the best brushes for removing excess pet hair

pmsl Jen, I don't think anyone would want to see a piccie of a real furball, they look like a big fat slug. They always cough them up where you are most likely to stand in them as well D

Re: Hairballs in Persians?

My cat must be quite lucky, she's longhaired and sheds like there's no tomorrow but she's only had about 3 hairballs in 3 months. We brush her everyday of course. I wonder if adding some veg to a cat's diet would help things pass through and so avoid a buildup of hair in the stomach?
