Swollen paw

Hi,

I'm new here, so hello!

I've got an eight month old kitten who is just getting out and about in the neighbourhood. He had a bit of an accident late last night so I'd just like some advice on what to do next.

We have a magnetic cat flap that he somehow managed to get a paw trapped in. He got very, very agitated and it took two of us to free him. He seemed very upset by it all and has been very subdued this morning.

He was very gingerly walking on the paw last night: there was no blood, but one of his claws seemed not to be able to retract. This morning, he is walking as normal, but his paw is quite swollen.

Is it worth a trip to a vet?

Thanks!

Chris

Re: Swollen paw

Hello Chris - welcome to the pf. I personally would take him to the vet, just to make sure that the paw is only bruised and to see what's up with that rogue claw.

Don't forget to update though when you are back from the vet!

Re: Swollen paw

I'd say it is definitely worth a trip to the vet.

If it's fractured he needs treatment right away. And if it's not then at least your vet can give him some pain medication. It's bound to be painful.

I hope he does ok!
