Frontline Spoton - increased scratching

Belle has a bad case of fleas and, therefore, so do we.

In the past, the normal supermarket 'spot-on' worked a treat but this year things have got out of control (has anyone else had the same experience this year ?) and we have a major infestation on our hands. Yesterday, we bought some Frontline Spoton and administered it as per the instructions but she seems to be scratching/grooming more excessively than before. Is this normal ? Are the fleas having their final meals before their execution ? Will it wear off ?

I'd be grateful to hear from other community members about their Frontline experience.

Re: Frontline Spoton - increased scratching

Im glad youve posted this cos this year Im having big problems with fleas and ticks. I have sprayed them with frontline as instructed, Ive had my terriers clipped and yesterday I bathed them and put on the pipette frontline and they have still got them, I know it take a good day or two to eradicate the blighters but Ive never known such a year as this, maybe its the muggy weather and they are breeding more. I have also sprayed the house and washed and sprayed their beds, its cost me a fortune and if they havnt gone now I dont know what else to do, maybe someone can suggest something.

Re: Frontline Spoton - increased scratching

I have 2 dogs n 3 cats plus any extra's that turn up and I did the house and everything in it a few months ago, well i've had to do it all again today
I use staykill on my rug and on any bedding cats or dogs, round the edges of my laminate, the sofa etc, all animals have been bathed much to their disgust and i'll by frontline ing them later when they are dry, I use the combi one as it works better for me BUT all my animals have garlic everyday in their food so im hoping thats helping aswell.
Im hoping i wont have to redo everything and everyone again anytime soon

Re: Frontline Spoton - increased scratching

Fleas and ticks seem to be rife this year! Our dog had a huge ones and it made me cringe.

But I have to say I have never used a supermarket "spot on" as I didnt think they were as effective as frontline. I know its more expensive but its worth it!

Re: Frontline Spoton - increased scratching

I use frontline combi from the vets as it treats the home as well as the pets.
i have never had a problem, but know of a few friends who have not done it regularly, and have had problems breaking the life cycle
i like to prevent the little ba**ards from getting on my cats!!!

Re: Frontline Spoton - increased scratching

The past winter wasn't too cold plus it has been rather wet & warm recently so perhaps that's contributed to the number of fleas and ticks around. Alternatively, there might be a new super-duper, genetically-enhanced strain of cat fleas.

The supermarket flea spot-on (Bob Martin) worked perfectly for the last 4 years keeping both her and us flea-free. However, we have discovered that the supermarket sprays/powders for the house aren't worth diddlysquat. I'm about to try Skoosh so will see if that does what it says on the tin.

Since posting this morning, she has settled down to sleep and doesn't seem to be as frantic in her grooming. Perhaps it was the flea equivalent of steak & chips before the long walk to the electric chair. I'll see how she is when she wakes up. Whatever, she still blames us for the fleas.

Re: Frontline Spoton - increased scratching

I was chatting to my vet about flea control and he told me that fleas and ticks are becoming immune to Frontline and Spot On. He recommended Advantage flea and tick control but none of mine have fleas. I think Advantage is prescription only.

Pink Lady - It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the fleas/ticks have become immune. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this lot will succumb to the medication.

Clare7577 - Belle certainly seems to be less frantic in her grooming today so I'm more confident that the fleas got worse before they got better
