Raw Meat Diet

Ive been looking into feeding Alfie & Evie raw meat, and so far so good! they've been full of energy, their stools have been firm again, coats and eyes bright and shiny... its brilliant.

They get one meal in the morning and then biscuits are left down throughout the day and then another meat meal around 5pm.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can introduce some kind of veg into their diet- kind of an alternative to feeding them a rabbit/mouse that already has the veg in their stomach contents??

Re: Raw Meat Diet

Blend the veg up and mix it or smear it on the meat!

I don't feed my cats any veg!

Re: Raw Meat Diet

Cats are obligate carnivores - they only need to eat meat and bones, they can't digest plant matter properly, they also can't produce taurine (found in red bull and other drinks like that), taurine is found in raw muscle meat. If you are feeding raw then don't forget cats like to have a good chew on bones as well (for the calcium) - my cats prefer chicken wings as opposed to an actual bone. They would in the wild get some plant matter from the preys stomach so if you are introducing veg they only need a very very small amount of it. Puree it and mix it into the meat (my cats tend to turn their noses up at any veg, puree'd or whole apart from the odd baked bean dropped by my toddler)

Re: Raw Meat Diet

I usually don't feed veggies, only when I have some left overs such as boiled broccoli, carrots or similar. I just mash the veggies down with some liver and the cats eat it without any complaints.

Re: Raw Meat Diet

Both my mogs have raw meat daily, though just to be sure they are getting everything they need from their diet, they have a sachet of Felix in the morning, a small bowl of 'Hills Science plan TD' biscuits (to stave off tooth decay, which a wet diet can contribute too), and at night they have a small amount of lambs liver, some chicken, steak and another sachet of felix. Sometimes they get lamb, or heart (or 2/3 freshwater prawns...as a special treat!), but lambs heart is their fav !!. People say they are spolit, but before we moved they were house cats and I wanted them to have fresh meat in their diet as 'practice' for when they started hunting, and for their own health benefits- and they both look fantastic , with superb coats and seem to be in perfect health. I don't give them fat or bones however, as they catch their own ! With regard to veg in a cats diet, I was also under the impression that they don't need any, and that they only eat grass to rid themslves of hair ingested when they groom themselves..... Jax. X
