Limping Kitten

Hi Guys this is my 1st time on here looking for some advice. I have a 9 week old kitten who is absolutely mad - naturally! However on returning home yesterday evening i found he was holding his right foreleg off the ground. I have cagerested him overnight and this morning he is a lot brighter and he is eating and drinking well - he is also using the leg to dig in the litter tray but when he gets out to walk a bit the leg is raised again. HELP - i am so worried about him and not sure whether to rest him for a few days or see the vet right away? Any help appreciated. Oh and does anyone have any opinions on pet insurance - to insure or not to insure? Thanks guys - pleease reply ASAP im a worried mum!

Re: Limping Kitten

My George had a limp not that long ago, although he is not a kitten, I found a tiny splinter in his pad which I removed with some tweezers. He was as right as rain after that.

Re: Limping Kitten

Ive had this happen to me with a 7 week old kitten,i suspect he slid of the coffee table whilst running around like a loon! i took him to b x rayed but he was fine, within a couple of days he was back to normal.if he seems uncomfortable you may need to take him to the vets for a anti inflammatry and painkiller shot to make him more comfortable

I had this happen with Tabitha when she was a kitten. She also curled up on my lap and started shaking so I thought she was in pain and took her straight to the vet who gave her an anti-inflammatory injection and a painkiller. It worked almost instantly and by the evening she was trying to climb the furniture again. I was amazed at how quickly she recovered.

Re: Limping Kitten

Sounds like he's landed heavily on his paw whilst playing,if he's used his paws to dig in the tray, would just make sure he rests-which he probably will anyway and boys always milk it)Welcome along Redd-i'm sure he'll be fine but if by tomorrow you see no improvement then have a word with your vet

Re: Limping Kitten

Thanks guys for all your help - it is great to know there are people out there to give some impartial advice to a worrier like myself! Its 1 day since the episode and he is tearing around like a wildman. I tried to cage rest him but after the first night i found him swinging tarzan-style off the top of the bars! I had no choice but to let him out and im just trying to keep him and my 8 month old boy from rolling around on top of each other - any suggestions? CJ can open all the doors in the house so confinement is nearly impossible - even with locks on he head butts the doors! Think i might get some sleep somethime in the next year! Oh the joy - love them though xxx
