Re: Dont buy this kitten!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly FIP is one disease that would not be picked up on a normal vet check unless the kitten was already unwell, and even then it's extremely difficult to test for. It can't be vaccinated against, and is not always contagious - some kittens may be unaffected while others die from it. A susceptibility to FIP may be inherited. The stress of going to a new home may bring it on in susceptible cats.

The breeder in this case may have acted in all good faith and done their best to raise healthy kittens, quite unaware the disease was present.

And in some cases it's not easy for a vet to diagnose FIP even after a cat has died... do you know if it died of the Wet form of the disease or the Dry?

Re: Dont buy this kitten!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That sounds like a very rapid development, assuming there were no symptoms when the kitten was purchased. What made the vet think it was FIP?
