Re: great cat free to a good home

I would declaw mine if it was done under anaesthetic, I didn't realise it wasn't, in which case it is absolutely disgusting, surely it is though?

In fact i wasn't even sure it could be done at all, I wouldn't do it to my cats unless it was pain free though!

Re: great cat free to a good home

If cats wasnt ment to have claws they wouldnt be born with them.....my vet agrees, unless of cause its a medical reason.

i cant even bare to think of the pain even if it is just a few seconds, im sure it would sting for a good week or so.....not just seconds!

Only too well I bite my nails! I just think its so barbaric really and in this day and age unecessary, I would sooner have a house full of scratchers than subject a cat to that.

Re: great cat free to a good home

It's not just the pain of removal which causes the problems. The cats can suffer from pain for the rest of their lives - it isn't just the claw that's removed, it's the last joint of each toe. They can have problems using the litterbox (well, would you want to dig if your paws were sore?), and can have aggression problems. They usually defend themselves with their claws - take them away, and they are more likely to use their teeth... I'd rather have a scratch than a cat bite... The problem is that people don't tend to link the declawing with the behavioural issues - kitty must just be a bad kitty and gets shipped off to the local shelter - and if it's not a 'no kill' shelter is pts, because of the aggression problems...

It is ignorance that leads to declawing. I'm sure if they had to go through the pain these poor cats go through they wouldn't do it.

Re: great cat free to a good home

They are trying to outlaw declawing in the US but so far West Hollywood, California is the only place where it's illegal.
As it is many animal shelters will not allow you to declaw your cat if you want to adopt from their shelter. I had to sign a contract agreeing I would never declaw my cats.

Hi

Totally with you on this one! anyone who comes here is either a cat lover or at least can tolerate them, anyone who declares themselves a cat hater is not welcome here. This is my cats home and if they are gracious enough to accept strangers through their front door then they shouldn't have to put up with peoples lousy attitude towards them.

Why should you have to put up with someone elses bad attitude towards your dog in your own home?!!

Izzie
