cat scratching post

Hi does any one have any ideas where i can get a cheap scratching post or something similar. i have checked the usual places online but for big sturdy ones that adult cats can use they are ranging from £35 to £40.
I would be up for making my own if anyone knows how to do it.
All ideal welcome
Thanks Kirsty

Re: cat scratching post

Wish I could help I spent months looking for a nice affordable scratching post for my two! Ended up asking my parents to get me one for christmas (they did: It's about 6ft high and 4ft wide! Takes up most of my kitchen!). I'll second a few pieces of wood and carpet, you could always hand a toy off it as well. Scratching posts really seem over priced, most of them are so pathetic i'm not sure my cats would look twice at them.

Re: cat scratching post

a piece of wood approx 18" long and 4" diameter is suitable and a length of untreated sisal rope about 100ft long will do the job.Fasten one end of the rope to the base of the wood and then wind the rope around as tight as you can.It is advisable to fix it after each 10 or so turns with a staple and then fasten the last 1" or so with 2 staples-job done !
I can supply the sisal rope - just visit :-
Cat Scratch Sisal 100ft new 6mm diam or Parrot toys
