Wink Wanted...Kitten!

Hi there

We are looking for a kitten for our 3 year old little girl for Christmas....

We are liking the Snowshoes and the Persians.....but want one that will suit us, and they will be happy around us too.
I don't know what characteristics these breeds have...but as I say, I want them to be happy!!!

We are preferably after a female that is litter trained and been vacinated etc and is as young as can be! We also have a very loveable dog who doesn't mind cats at all!!!

We are willing to travel for the ideal cutie!!!

Thanks in Advance

Re: Wanted...Kitten!

dont mean to cause offence(but probably will) but imo to buy a kitten for a 3 year old is a very bad idea! it is not a toy,to be mauled and pulled around, which is what will happen with a child that age.

Re: Wanted...Kitten!

I have to say that the idea of selling a kitten to a home with a child under five would not appeal to me at all.

Fair point but i can also arguee this as my brother has a 3 year old boy and has just got a lil doggy, and he is so gentel with him. so it can be a good thing in a way....depends on situation, but it is something to think about....Oh and remember a kitty is for life not just for xmas x

Re: Wanted...Kitten!

dont mean to offend too but u shouldnt get a kitten not younger than 12 weeks of age

and as long u as the parent will take care of the kitten, as this will be ur responsibility and ur cat, then it should be fine....i guess.
But then i would never leave a child that age unattendet with any animals

good luck

Wink Re: Wanted...Kitten!

Ok ok ok...I hear what you are saying and you have given some very responsible answers that I would expect on a specialised forum, like this!

But to answer a few of your concerns-
Our daughter is a very well behaved and gentle little girl who will never be left alone with any animals we have!

We have a Leopard Gecko breeding business, Geckos are very fragile and she handles them with gentleness and responsibility, she is a bright little girl!!!

Yes, we are looking for a pedigree as my In-laws have a pair of sisters who are around 5 years old now, and they are pedigree and lovely and very different! Which is what we are after!

Why shouldn't i get a kitten under 12 weeks old? I am confused!?

Re: Wanted...Kitten!

GCCF regulations state pedigrees need to be vaccinated prior to re-homing vaccination courses take 3 weeks to complete and need a week to resettle after completion as the vaccinations affect kittens like jabs affect babies temps runny tummies ect vets tend not to start course under 10wks

pedigrees grow and mature much much slower than moggies

Re: Wanted...Kitten!

because any reputable pedigree breeder wouldn't let kittens go under 12/13 weeks of age!

Good luck - hope you find a lovely kitty. I have 3 girls aged 9, 4 and nearly 2 and they have always had animals around them and as such are fantastic with them. All of our cats love our girls and have never had any reason to be fearful or reticent at all

Hope this helps

Lou
