Re: I am looking for a Siberian cat or kitten
I think you will find that most pedigree cats are that price - and for good reason - you would be buying a fully vaccinated, parents health tested (via DNA tests), parentage known for many, many generations, fully socialised cat with full GCCF registration and breeder support.
Yes you will find back yard breeders selling what they call Siberian cats but they won't be able to guarantee that they are - anyone can make up a false pedigree and how would Johnny Average know? But to actually register the kitten with the GCCF, or TICA or FiFE you have to be the genuine article. The SIberian isn't a cheap cat, but then you are paying for much more than the flesh and bones. If you want, take a risk on a byb but you could end up paying out more in the long run because of health problems or a badly socialised cat that won't look at you or is vicious. SOme of the sellers of supposed cheap pedigree cats - well . . I look a the photos and I KNOW that the cat in the photo is a moggy and the person is being scammed.
In the cat world you really do seem to get what you pay for. If you want a less allergic reaction creating cat you need to go and visit the breeder at least twice and sit in the house for at least a couple of hours each time letting the cats lick and nibble you and holding them close - this way not only will you find you if you are allergic but you will also find out f you like the breed, the breeder and how well socialised that breeders cats are.
You will find I think, that like most people who are mildly allergic that you will grow used to your own cat - my mum was but it never put her off having cats (yes plural). My husband is and I breed cats. A lot of people find pedigree cats (of lots of varieties) less allergic. But unless you want you fingers burnt if you go down the pedigree route do it properly and pay the price (very few breeders make any money on their cats - most litters bring a loss - most breeders do it for the love of the breed). Or get a moggy and grow used to it if you really can't stomach the cost of a ped.
