Cat collars
OK - I have thought the matter of 'in' or 'out' over and decided that for my cats, and in my circumstances, then I will let them out.
(Yes, I may be devastated in days, weeks, months, years to find they have gone missing/injured/rta/dead from poisoning) Both are microchipped and I have changed the microchip registration to my name and all is in order. They are now both insured via Petplan. But ------- would you put a collar on and if so any recommendations? |

Re: Cat collars
If you have to put a collar on them then definitely the breakaway kind - this is a good site Kitty Collars: Safe Cat Collars UK - Cat Safety Collars UK the ones you can personalise look like a good idea.

Re: Cat collars
Hi Hun,
I have 2 outdoor cats, they are both insured, microchipped and vaccinated. They both have collars with tags and bells on, the tags have their name on and my home phone number on. I have tried and tested a lot of collars and Snoopy has a snap away collar i think they are called this is normally my type of collar as if they get stuck or trapped by the collar it snaps off and they wont be strangled.Peanuts is a bit harder as she has gone through atleast 4 collars this year so far she some how manages to get her leg through the neck bit thankfully she has always come straight home and i have been able to take it off before she chokes herself. I have had to put a buckle one on Peanuts because i know 100% she cant choke herself with this one BUT if she got caught anywhere it would snap off like Snoopy's ![]() I have to weigh up the options with my 2 as they are both so different god help me when the kitten can go out ![]() Hope some of my ramble helps you hun xx |

I hated collars on mine but unfortunatly my other half kev found a cat who had been attacked by a fox we took her to the vets and by the tim they scanned her and contacted her owner she had died, If the poor cat had a collar on the lady would have been able to say goodbye to her cat. This is what changed my mind on collars x ![]() |

Re: Cat collars
All my cats are outdoor cats. My older three won't wear collars so I decided to put collars on my younger two as soon as I got them. Tabitha is fine with hers but Tigger usually loses his after two or three days. He went missing recently and had no collar on at the time. When he came back I bought another one and he has kept this one on for a couple of weeks. It is one that comes off should he catch it and it is reflective too so that he can be seen a bit better at night.
I am going to get my younger two microchipped as soon as I can but will still keep collars on them as they have bells on too and I think this gives the wildlife a bit of a fighting chance at escape!! I do put their collars on quite loosely as I have seen cats that have had their fur around their neck completely rubbed away from wearing a collar. Lumps |
