Re: Rehoming cats

LOL, you assume too much m'dear I AM friends with a few breeders, none of whom ever breed so much that they cannot keep their retired queens in luxury until they die of old age or unavoidable illness

These same breeders show if they have a girl or a neuter to show or don't if they are not up to scratch for showing but are good breeding queens. They would all rather kick the husband or wife out before give up a cherished furry family friend who has also given them years of love and the enjoyment and thrill of kittens. They say the least they can do in return is to offer them the same love, life and security that they have known in their younger breeding years for the (usually longer) retired years.

Right ok then BUT if your breeder friends didn't have the room for ALL of their cats including returned kittens what would be your suggestion? Stop breeding?
Would you say that rehoming a cat that will go somewhere where they may be the only cat and get all the love and attention required is worse than being in a multi cat household just because the breeders are to selfish to make sure ALL of their cats have a decent quality of life?
Because surely if everyone decided against rehoming their cats then it would be the cats that suffer as they would no doubtable end up a worse situation than being rehomed?

Re: Rehoming cats

Sorry guys and gals not sure where you are coming from on this one, have never posted here before or even been here but if you wish to enlighten me I will be more than willing to answer any questions you have.

I am just an ordinary guy with a penchant for encouraging lively discussion and debate, albeit on subjects about which I myself am passionate. Anything wrong in that?

Re: Rehoming cats

Sounds like you should be campaigning to get moggys neutered as there are more moggy's than pedigrees in shelters/rescue centres.

Re: Rehoming cats

I think the main thing here would be the cats happiness, I don't see what the problem would be if they found a loving family to care for it instead of breeding when it can't do so anymore. I think as long as the breeder has the responsibility of finding the cat a good home, the cat will be happy. It's happiness is paramount
I'm sorry if you don't agree.

xxx Joey

Yes quite right Kay.

I think a sensible debate on what can be done to combat the problem of the ever increasing BYB's would be more justified.

Re: Rehoming cats

Absolutely right Jem
We all try to breed for the betterment of our breed, if we used the same cats over and over again we would stand still.
I hate it when people say surplus to requirementmy cats are loved and cared for better than some Children, ALL my cats are pets first.
They have outside quarters with everything they could need !heating and radio included, they have access to the house when they want and get all my love and attention.
Sadly you do hear stories of so called "breeders'' that do just leave the cats in sheds and queens give birth outside
My kittens are born in my bedroom then after a couple of weeks they go into the cat room, once they are litter trained they come and go as they please and if I'm lucky they allow me to sleep in my bed D

Re: Rehoming cats

Firstly my friends do not breed to excess, they are careful only to keep a kitten if they know they have room for it and, no, if it would mean having too many cats for them all to be given a good quality of life and love then they would temporarily stop breeding. One has 6 cats and until one dies naturally will not keep any more kittens regardless, another has the time, space and money for a considerably larger number, none will ever compromise the health or happiness of their pets.

Secondly I just enjoy a debate and if that offends you then perhaps you should not participate in forums

Thirdly I am actively involved in several local cat rescues and do most strongly advocate the neutering of ALL animals not intended for breeding, be they pedigree cats or moggies, dogs or even rabbits!

Finally I apologise most sincerely for the lack of an introduction, there are brief notes upon my profile which I thought would suffice but please do feel free to ask of me what you will
