Wondering if my 6 month old is on heat?

We have a six month old girl maine coon. She's getting spayed at the end of April but in the meantime I'm wondering if she may have come into heat? I've seen queens very obviously on heat - the pacing, yowling, posing with their bum in the air etc - and she's not doing that, but she has just been...odd these past couple of days.

She's making more noise than usual (although she's very talkative anyway) and is quite restless in the night, has been a bit skittish, and seems to want to wander off round the house on her own (which is unusual for her, she's a shadow normally). She is otherwise totally fine and not off-colour in any way. However I wouldn't have noticed any of this were it not for the fact that the neighbourhood toms keep turning up at the back door and doing their best Romeo impression (and they did for a few days about three weeks ago, too). So:

1. Is it relatively normal for girls to come into heat without exhibiting 'normal' season behaviour?
2. Is it usual for a girl to come into heat at 6 months?

Thanks a lot! This is my first post and I hope to be posting more in the future - off to go and add to the gallery now

Hello.

What a sweet girl you have

Welcome to the forum!!

Each girl is different and will exhibit different behaviors.

It is very possible that she is in heat yes. My girl had her 1st heat at only 4 months old.

You may notice your girl showing more signs of heat over the next few days.

Juts to confirm that my suspicions were correct! Today she has been howling her head off and rolling around like a tart (at the moment she is on her back on my lap writhing and chirping). I keep telling her that I'm sorry, but I can't get her pregnant She's been excellent to groom though, normally she loses interest after a few minutes but I managed to give her a half hour session this morning and she wouldn't let me stop! Ha.

Going to give her vets a ring in the morning to ask when the optimal time to get her in for a spay is
