Will I poison them?

Hi everyone,

I believe that cats don't like citrus smells/tastes. My little boy kitten (Bo) has taken to going to the toilet behind one of my couches. I was thinking of squeezing a bit of lemon or orange juice into some water and wiping the area with this solution. Will this harm them in any way?

Also, my female kitten (Daisy) has watery eyes. There isn't any "gunk" or anything. She has got a bit of a loose bowel - could this be change of environment/food? Luckily she is using the tray!! They only came to me yesterday and they are both rescue kittens estimated at around 6/7 weeks old.

Thanks in adance for your help.

Re: Will I poison them?

bless you for taking on 2 rescue kittens!

Firstly I would get the kittens to the Vet ASAP just so they can be checked over..

The lemon in water wont poison them, they just dont like the smell!

Re: Will I poison them?

Hi & welcome. No you won't poison them at all. I rub orange peel in places I don't want them to scratch ect on. I know of people that cut lemons in half and rub them where a cat wee's or poo's to stop them too

Hello Jendon and welcome to you and your 2 new additionsBee and Wendy are right in that citrus fruits won't poison them, they just (most cats not all) don't like it,but if for the kitt with watery eyes and loose poo's-maybe get them both to your vets and have them checked,as if one has something chances are that both have something, but it could be nothing-at least you will have peace of mind and they will be wellDo they have names and do you have pics

Thanks for the advice - they were abandoned in a cemetry but luckily the person who found them took them straight to the vets where they stayed unil they were rehomed.

They are so adorable.

I will definitely use some lemons and oranges - I would prefer that than a spray I think, whilst they are so young at least.

Re: Will I poison them?

Jendon, it's just time and patience love, they have to be shown where their trays are and leave a little used soil in their, watch for signs they need to go and place them in their tray, they will with patience and persistence learn to use their tray-maybe put a tray where they are going at the mo(if you can) and when they grasp this, move it to a more suited placeWhat a compassionate and good soul you have-they found you for some good reason and i'm sure you'll as you are doing, find a great friendship with them both
