Gemma is slowly coming round

Hi

My other thread disappeared the other night so I thought i'd do an update on Gemma's progress.

Well, each day we seem to be making a step in the right direction. Shes started coming down every night, mieows like mad to let us know shes on her way. Takes her a while to make it into the kitchen but shes now used to me moving round in there doing her food. Last night she got to within an inch of actually eating from the bowl while I was still holding it. She let me just touch her head but that was it and I didn't push her any further. Sparkle was in the kitchen too last night and they went for the same food at the same time, Gemma backed off slightly and Sparkle gave a little growl but nothing to worry about. Later they were chasing each other up the hall, playfully!!! Still slightly wary with each other but I feel confident leaving them unsupervised next to each other

Then today, Gemma came downstairs IN THE DAYLIGHT we heard her then she appeared while we were eating tea. Think feeling hungry brings her down but I won't take food up to her as I think that will make her retreat under the bed again. I do put her water next to her during the day and she drinks most of it up. She didn't quite make it to the food at tea time before she ran back upstairs but she was walking round the kids bedroom and sitting at the top of the stairs for a bit, she'd move away from us but no way is she as scared as she was.

OH managed to stroke her a few times this weekend and again shes lashed out, but she seems to like the attention. The last time she lashed out it was just her paw so more of a hit that anything vicious, didn't have her claws out so that was good

We had the microchip details through the other day so shes registered to our address now, at the rescue centre she was known by one name, but now we have her original name. It's a lovely name which sounds like someone really liked her so god knows what went wrong in her life Still, shes ours now and slowly shes coming round

Younger two were so happy today as they haven't really seen her for days.

Sorry to go on but I'm so pleased that shes feeling more at home

Re: Gemma is slowly coming round

ohhhh i'm so glad i'm not boring you silly with it. I thought we'd taken on too much with her but with all the encouragement i've received from you lot shes coming along so much

While I was doing my other post, she came down, used her tray and had some food. Both cats were in the kitchen. She stayed put when I went in to put more food down, then she ran upstairs when my daughter went to bed. Few minutes later she heard Sparkle again downstairs and came down the stairs like lightening Good job she didn't come down a few minutes earlier as we had this HUGE tom put his face right up the glass by our front door He's the size of both my cats put together!! He's not been done either and sprays all over the place, him and his brother are the reason when we had our kittens a few years back we couldn't possibly let them out till they had their op.

OH said earlier Gemma and Sparkle were chasing each other up and down the stairs, Gemma gets close to Spark and rolls over, almost flirting with her, maybe she thinks Sparkles a tom

Gemma sounds as if she is coming on really well . Glad its all working out for you with her . Give it a couple more weeks and she will seem as if she has been there forever.

Re: Gemma is slowly coming round

This is great progress - love reading about how Sparkle becomes bolder as time goes by and all the little games your cats play together. Very soon they will be just like best mates You've done a really good job with them - they seem to respond well to your patience and love.

Re: Gemma is slowly coming round

Hi, thought i'd do an update

Gemma and Sparkle are getting on great. As soon as Sparkle comes in from outside, Gemma starts talking and comes out from under the bed. She is still very wary and hates it if she knows someone is between her and the bed, so if shes in the kitchen and she hears someone on the stairs, she runs like lightening up the stairs and under the bed. But if shes standing in the bedroom doorway, then she'll stay put while you walk round upstairs.

What was lovely yesterday was, it was sunny in the kids bedroom and there was a huge sunny warm patch on the carpet, so Gemma ventured out and slept almost in the middle of the floor When I walked in later, she let me open the wardrobe and put some stuff away, and only decided it was too much for her when I left the room and returned with a few more things.

It's quite normal now to see her once (or if your lucky, twice) during the daytime too, she might not always make it to the kitchen for food, but she can be seen sitting at the top of the stairs. If shes under the bed and you put your hand out to her (with your fingers tucked in) she'll come over to you and push her head against your knuckles, then you can stroke her and she loves it and purrs It's so frustrating, you just want to grab her and give her a hugeeeeeeeeeeee hug

At night time, she knows its food time. She comes down the stairs and is coping better with the noises from the older kids getting ready for bed, shes a bit jumpy and runs back to the bottom of the stairs and then back to the kitchen lots of times, but loves her food. Last night they both had some "proper" chicken, up till now Gemma wouldn't try it, but she sniffed her plate, then Sparkles just to check they had the same, then took a small piece off her plate, ran back a few feet, then scoffed it i know it was only a piece of chicken but up till now shes only had cat food and left anything different we've offered her.

At night we can hear them playing, Gemma loves to be chased One problem is, when she pulls herself along with her claws on the carpet . When Sparkle does it she gets told off, but with Gemma no way can we tell her off, so we have to try to distract her.

Last night when the younger two kids had gone to bed, Sparkle went to sleep at the top of the stairs like she does and Gemma curled up just a few inches away from her. So now we have two cats trying to trip us up on the stairs.

So there we are, its lovely to see her slowly feeling more secure, shes very eager to come in the lounge and dining room, but at the moment she just stands at the door way with huge eyes.
