PoppyLily is on a distinguished road
Premature Kittens

Hi everyone,

I posted last week about my snow bengal Lily giving birth to 6 kittens, 2 of which died.

The kittens are now 10 days old. Only one of them has his eyes open and i still have one with his cord attached. is this normal at 10 days? I seem to remember Poppy's kittens losing their cords at around 4 days and eyes starting to open at about 7 days. They are all still tiny but putting weight on daily now.

Do you think the kittens may have been slightly premature? If so, will this affect their health in later life?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: Premature Kittens

Hi Kelsie, glad you have posted. Yea, I had a couple of kittens that cords were still attached at 10 days, so I just trimmed them off, they are fine now They could of been prem, but I don't know enough about premie kittens to say if they can have problems in later life. I have known of some that have gone on to be fab cats and do just fine

Re: Premature Kittens

Hi Kelsie,
Ive had a kitten who had a very attached cord! The vet put a little stitch in it to keep out any infection, it dropped off at 5 weeks, as long as its clean and dry it shouldnt cause a problem. if its very long you could trim it down a little, dont try to pull at it though you could cause a hernia, it will come off eventually.
