A tip that you may be aware of. Most prefixes that begin with A that look completely made up are the GCCF's prefix for a particular year for kittens born to catteries without prefixes.

Really? You learn new something every day! Why would a breeder have a cattery without a registered prefix? Does this make them unreliable in regard to the cats or is it common place for catteries not to adopt a prefix?

it probably just means that they had a set of kittens whilst waiting the interminable time the GCCF takes to agree to your prefix, also a lot of breed clubs make you wait a year before signing the forms to go to the GCCF to start the 'on average' 24 weeks it takes to get a prefix. If you queen is calling all that time she'd get very poorly waiting.

I didn't know any of this lol! It looks like Marley has far more 'up and coming' catteries in his pedigree than Layla

Re: The pedigrees of my two BSH - any relatives out there?

look them up on the GCCF website they won't all be administrative prefixes. http://www.gccfcats.org/pdf/Prefixes.pdf - all prefixes: Welcome to the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy administrative prefixes

Thanks for that. I just took a quick peek at the links and 99% of the 'A's in Marley's pedigree are administrative pre fixes. Interesting stuff!

Re: The pedigrees of my two BSH - any relatives out there?

Not having a prefix whatsoever isn't a terrible thing. Just makes looking at pedigrees difficult to see who is related & also if they show then it may be hard for them to be remembered as they are the BEST way to advertise kittens.

Marley's ok as he's never been shown so doesn't need to be memorable lol
I see where the difficulty arises though in regard to finding relations. I just can't believe I didn't know about these GCCF generated prefixes before

*Kimberley creeps off to retrieve her dunce hat* lol
