With some breeds this is not about colour. Our Siberians follow the same traits most of the girls like to be left alone and will only play or cuddle when they want but the boys are all over you wanting cuddles.

I have a white female who is extremely loving. She's a one person cat though.

Is this common in whites?

I have a black smoke BSH and a blue colour point Bsh. Both have excellent temperaments but Layla the blue colour point is a lot more cuddly. I remember her breeder saying that the colour points were best temperament wise.

Re: Is there a link between coat colour and personality?

I have read research somewhere that shows a correlation between coat colour and personality. It was very scientific and showed that darker colours like black, tabby, and tortie had more outgoing, confidant personalitys.
Cant remember what cat mag I read it in though!!

Re: Is there a link between coat colour and personality?

Interesting! Never heard of this before. But it might explain why my name sake is totally mad... LOL! She is a tortie girl with not a BSH gene in sight. She is a cross of varying oriental breeds.... I always thought that this largely contributed to her deliciously mad as a hatter outgoing personality.

Long long time ago now, I had a BSH torti girl, and she was sweetness and light.... and not a mad hair on her.

My only BSH nowadays is my darling blue/white, gormless, all the lights are on but no one's at home, neutered teacosy, Tom. I got him when he was 1yr old. The woman claimed that she wanted to start breeding Ragdoll cats and could not have any unregistered cats if she was to be taken serious by this country's cat association. I knew she was spouting absolute b**sh**! Tom is a pedigree cat, but I did not get his papers (she let drop that he had them....). Not that I care, even though I know that Tom is good enough to show! Tom has turned out to be the most affectionate darling possible, and I am so glad that he is mine now!

Re: Is there a link between coat colour and personality?

Currently we have 3 black and white dsh and all 3 are totally different

The eldest female loves only my dad and she has quite a bitchy temprament towars my mum and when it comes to me, its a bit of a 'only when i feel like loving you' relationship, but she's always been this way since i can remember

The eldest male has a really lovely temprament, he loves his cuddles and his food and loves to play, being 9 years old its quite fun to see him bounding about, altho he only likes cuddles at certain times, but otherwise he dont have a nasty bone in his body, loves the outdoors.

The youngest male is about 7months old now [between 6 and 7 months] and is a total maniac, the most insane cat we've ever owned. He loves his food too. He has no problems with jumping at legs with claws attached either and does love to play, but he's also very very loving, every morning he wakes me licking and nuzzling my face and he does it everynight to me, mum and dad

Then his brother, same age is white and grey kinda colour is is quite the adventurer. Loves the outside, also loves to sleep. Then in the evening he becomes very loving towards me, no one else, gets into all kinds of positions when he gets onto my lap and loves being brushed and general interaction with humans

Thanks for all the replies, been interesting to read about your experiences. Don't know if I'm any the wiser about whether colour is a strong predictor of personality - may just have to go on looks
